Payroll and Benefits Manager

The Role:
Our expanding company is seeking to hire a Los Angeles-based Payroll & Benefits Manager to join our talented team. Reporting to the Accounting & Finance Manager, you will run point on everything that makes our Payroll & Benefits function tick. You will ensure the successful onboarding of new employees, administration of payroll, and management of benefits plans.
You will accomplish this by maintaining accurate bi-weekly, multi-state payroll for over 100 employees, managing all benefit plans (including but not limited to all health insurance and 401(k) plans), conducting audits of payroll tax forms, and by staying up to date on state and federal labor regulations. As Payroll and Benefits Manager, you’ll be the Company’s very first HR hire. You will be instrumental in implementing best practices related to the payroll and benefits function.
What You’ll Do:
Validate, document, and process the bi-weekly multi-state payroll for over 100 employees, including payroll deductions and wage garnishments.
Maintain the hourly payroll time tracking system, updating records and running reports.
Conduct audits of key tax forms, payroll balance sheets, and benefits.
Manage all benefit plans, including but not limited to all health insurance and 401(k) plans.
Stay up to date on state and federal labor regulations to ensure organizational compliance.
Help onboard new employees, including explaining the various benefit options.
Support the hiring of new employees by creating job descriptions, scheduling interviews and performing background checks and investigating references.
Assist the Accounting and Finance Manager and VP of Operations as needed.

You are continuously improving your skills and are pursuing a Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation (or have an interest in doing so).
You have a strong working knowledge of California, New York, and Texas labor laws, as well as state and federal payroll taxes
You have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Human Resources, or equivalent.
You have 5+ years of experience in a payroll & benefits oriented HR role.
