The HR Specialist provides critical support to the Human Resources team by coordinating and executing key HR processes across the employee lifecycle. This role focuses on maintaining data integrity within the HR systems, supporting organizational structure changes, processing employee actions, and ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations. The HR Specialist will work closely with the HRIS Analyst and People Team to ensure smooth execution of operational HR functions, helping to build a strong foundation for scalable growth. This is a hands-on role requiring attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality while working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. THIS IS A  HYBRID POSITION BASED IN OUR HOUSTON OFFICE

Education and Experience:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or other HR certifications are a plus.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in HR, HR operations, or related administrative roles.
  • Experience working with HRIS systems and understanding of personnel processes required (UKG or Workday is a plus).
  • Experience in life sciences, healthcare, or fast-paced, growth-oriented environments is a plus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enters, maintains, and audits employee information in the HRIS system (e.g., UKG, Workday), including new hires, promotions, organizational changes, and terminations.
  • Supports the processing and documentation of job changes, reporting structure updates, and department realignments.
  • Partners with the HRIS Analyst to perform regular audits for data accuracy and integrity.
  • Supports employee lifecycle events including onboarding, offboarding, and internal transfers.
  • Assists in ensuring alignment of job titles, ranks, and organizational structures with internal frameworks.
  • Assists in preparation for reports, dashboards, and organizational charts as needed to support HR and business leaders.
  • Coordinates personnel action approvals, ensuring compliance with company policies and audit requirements.
  • Responds to employee and manager inquiries regarding HR policies, processes, and system navigation.
  • Participates in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at streamlining HR operational processes.
  • Assists with HR projects such as compliance reporting, data analysis, and policy documentation updates.
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive employee and organizational information at all times.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to Code of Conduct as outlined in the Baylor Genetics Compliance Program.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Familiarity with HR processes and employment laws.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with HRIS platforms such as UKG, Workday, ADP, or similar systems is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Frequently required to sit, talk, or hear.
  • Regular use of computer and office equipment.
