About Plasmidsaurus

Plasmidsaurus is on a mission to accelerate new cures and promote a healthier planet by unlocking a new level of productivity for scientists. Our sequencing services are used daily by thousands of innovators, including Nobel laureates, Fortune 100 pharma, and over 70,000 scientists.

We began by revolutionizing plasmid sequencing, making it exponentially cheaper and faster, with innovative sequencing technologies and a global network of laboratories that turn samples into answers in hours, not weeks.

Now we are expanding that same disruptive model across all of genomics. With the launch of our new RNA-seq service, we are taking a bold step toward our vision to sequence everything, providing scientists everywhere with faster, simpler, and more affordable access to the data that powers discovery.

Every team member at Plasmidsaurus plays a crucial role in driving the future of biotech research. Together, we are building the world’s most efficient sequencing engine that operates overnight, scales globally, and helps scientists make breakthroughs faster than ever before.

About the Role

We are looking for a highly motivated and systems-minded HR Generalist to own the workflows and tooling that keep our team running. Reporting to the VP of People, you will be the internal expert on our people systems, the operational backbone behind payroll, benefits, and compliance, and the person who makes sure every employee — whether in South San Francisco, another US state, or an international entity — has a seamless experience from Day 1. This is an individual contributor role which will require you to operate with a high degree of autonomy, pay excellent attention to detail, and collaborate across company functions.

What You'll Do

  • Own Rippling end-to-end: payroll, benefits administration, onboarding/offboarding workflows, app provisioning, and automations

  • Run multi-state and international payroll, including coordination with local providers and PEOs for global team members

  • Keep us compliant across all US states — registrations, local leave laws, required postings, and reporting — and help manage compliance requirements for our international entities

  • Support employee visa and immigration processes as the internal coordinator and employee-facing point of contact

  • Administer benefits day-to-day and own open enrollment end-to-end

  • Manage employment documentation across FTEs, contractors, and international workers

  • Deliver a tight onboarding experience and own the full employee lifecycle in our systems

What We're Looking For

  • 3–5 years in HR, People Ops, or a similar role, ideally at a scaling startup

  • Expert-level Rippling experience — you've helped own it, not just used it

  • Multi-state payroll and compliance experience; California is a strong plus

  • Experience coordinating visa and immigration cases with outside counsel

  • Comfort navigating international entities and varied employment models

  • Highly autonomous, detail-obsessed, and a clear communicator

  • Excellent decision making capability and knows when to seek support or guidance

  • Ashby experience is a plus

We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't perfectly align with the job description as we seek out diverse and creative perspectives. Team members who love to learn and collaborate in an inclusive environment will thrive with us. We are an equal opportunity employer and do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status. If you need additional accommodations to feel comfortable during your interview process, please let us know at [email protected].

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
