Job Description

We’re looking for an Assets Expansion Lead to join our APAC Assets team. You will be the right hand to the APAC Investment Lead, helping to accelerate our expansion plans across Asia Pacific (e.g., HK, SK, CN, TH, PH, etc).

Your immediate priority and primary mission will be to launch Wise Assets in Hong Kong. You will serve as the Responsible Officer (RO) for Wise Assets Hong Kong Limited, securing our license and leading the local operations. Once established, you will broaden your scope to assist the APAC Investment Lead in opening and managing new markets across the region.

You’ll work closely with the Assets Product team—an autonomous team of Product Managers, Designers, Engineers, and Compliance specialists—to shape the product vision and change the future of finance.

Your Mission:

1. Launch Wise Assets in Hong Kong

  • Act as the Responsible Officer (RO) for Wise Assets Hong Kong Limited regarding the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC). You will manage the licensing process end-to-end.

  • Lead the operational setup of the HK investment entity, ensuring alignment with Wise’s global standards and local SFC requirements.

  • Ensure that the operating model agreed with regulators is efficient and aligns with our product and customer needs.

2. Support APAC Expansion

  • Collaborate with the APAC Investment Lead and wider APAC regional banking and expansion team to scope routes to market for other APAC countries (e.g., Hong Kong, South Korea, China, Thailand, Philippines, etc), analyzing regulatory requirements and customer needs.

  • Analyse the optimal route to market for the Assets product in these markets, taking into account how customer needs differ by market, product functionality and regulatory requirements.

  • Build a good relationship with regulatory authorities to ensure a smooth licensing process and success once the licence is granted

  • Ensure that the operating model agreed with regulators is efficient and aligns with our product and customers needs.

  • Source and / or hire any personnel that may be required to obtain the licence such as a local compliance officer or financial controller

  • Liaise closely with teams across Wise such as Product, Engineering, Operations, Finance and Compliance to ensure that we have the necessary resources and processes in place to successfully sustain operations

3. Build Strong Commercial Relationships

  • Identify new commercial relationships with investment managers, banks and payments partners to optimise the product experience for customers in terms of price, coverage and available asset classes

  • Onboard new partners and negotiate contracts, taking into account commercial priorities as well as risks

  • Manage our existing commercial relationships to ensure that they are delivering the best outcomes for our customers in terms of price and coverage

4. Identify New Strategic Opportunities

  • Shape the product vision and roadmap alongside the Product Manager, thinking about our customer needs, blockers and opportunities

  • Work closely with the Product Manager and the wider team to prioritise opportunities taking into consideration the product roadmap, resource and product build requirements

  • Identify and size new product ideas to test, build, and launch.

Qualifications

  • You are either a current SFC Type 1, 4 or 9 Responsible Officer OR you meet the strict criteria to become one immediately:

    • You possess at least 3 years of relevant industry experience in the 6 years immediately preceding this application, with at least 2 years of management experience.

    • You hold a relevant degree (Finance, Law, Economics) or a recognized industry qualification (e.g., CFA).

    • You have passed the relevant HKSI Licensing Examinations papers (minimum: LE Paper 1, 2; expected: LE Papers 7, 8).

  • Experience dealing directly with regulators (SFC) and managing licensing projects.

  • Fluent in Business English (Cantonese/Mandarin is a strong plus for HK stakeholder management).

You may be a good fit if:

  • You have led the end-to-end process for expanding financial services products to new markets, including scoping route to market and applying for new licences from local regulators

  • You are familiar with the financial services industry and understand different financial products and how they work, as well as their risks and target markets. Specific market knowledge and experience in Asia Pacific would be beneficial.

  • You have negotiated commercial relationships with a clear product vision and understanding in mind. You are able to figure out the ideal operational and commercial process with new partners

  • You are familiar with how fund managers and financial institutions work. You are strong at managing those relationships and are constantly creating opportunities to improve them

  • You have fresh ideas - You don’t accept the status quo, but are interested in solving problems in novel ways. You are able to communicate the impact of those ideas, gather stakeholder buy-in, and formulate plans to implement them

  • You are passionate about our mission and transforming the financial industry for good

  • You have flexibility for some international travel (around 10-20% of time)

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
