Job Description

Abramson Labor Group, an applicant-side California workers’ compensation firm, is hiring a Hearing Representative to own our settlement and OSA (Order Suspending Action) hearing calendar before the WCAB. This is a hearing-facing role: you prepare each matter, appear virtually at every settlement hearing, keep the file and the client updated on both sides of the appearance, and resolve Orders Suspending Action from start to finish. We’re looking for someone with real hearing experience who thrives on organization, juggling volume, and hitting weekly targets.

What You’ll Do

  • Prepare and appear: Complete hearing preparation for the upcoming week and appear virtually at all settlement hearings — status conferences, mandatory settlement conferences, lien conferences, and OSA hearings.

  • Keep files current: Update each case file before and after every hearing so the record reflects what happened and what comes next.

  • Keep clients updated: Reach out to clients before and after hearings, and send required client communications on schedule.

  • Resolve OSAs completely: Take Orders Suspending Action from receipt to resolution — compile the file, cure signature/service/lien and adequacy defects, draft the necessary letters and declarations, and follow through until the matter is cleared.

  • Negotiate split fees: Handle fee negotiations on cases subbed out to or referred from other firms.

  • Communicate internally: Coordinate with attorneys and settlement staff, escalate approvals when needed, and keep everyone aligned on matter status.

  • Meet weekly metrics: Consistently hit weekly hearing-prep, OSA-queue, and client-communication targets.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For

  • Hearing experience in California workers’ compensation — you’ve prepped and appeared at WCAB hearings and are comfortable on the record before a Workers’ Compensation Judge.

  • Solid working knowledge of workers’ compensation practice and WCAB procedure, including OSAs, the C&R/OACR process, and EAMS e-filing.

  • Highly organized and able to keep dozens of matters moving without dropping details.

  • A strong multitasker who works well under deadlines and shifting priorities.

  • Self-motivated and comfortable being held to weekly performance metrics.

  • Clear, professional communicator with clients, judges, and internal staff.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a significant plus given our client base.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with lien resolution, split/referral-fee arrangements, and MSA/Medicare set-aside basics.

  • Experience with case-management or workflow systems.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
