Job Title: Head of Unscripted, Sixteenth Studios

Location: Los Angeles, CA or New York City, NY

Start Date: ASAP

Sixteenth, part of Whalar Group, is one of the leading, global, 360° Creator talent management companies. As the home of “good influence,” we’re dedicated to building long-term, strategic partnerships that help Creators fulfill their professional and human potential. We believe in promoting positivity and purpose — enabling Creators to deliver culturally relevant content, achieve deeper audience engagement, and build lasting careers.

Andy Warhol once predicted that everyone would have fifteen minutes of fame. We're here to give creators their Sixteenth minute — and beyond. Learn more about Sixteenth: www.sixteenth.com.

About the role:

As Head of Unscripted, Sixteenth Studios, you will lead the development, packaging, and sale of premium unscripted formats and docuseries across television and streaming. You will oversee an active slate of productions from development through delivery while building a studio designed to create scalable IP and long-term franchises.

This is a foundational leadership role for someone who understands both the creative and commercial sides of unscripted. You know how to take an idea from concept to pitch to sale, and you have the relationships and instincts to get it there.

You will play a key role in translating Creator-led ideas into premium series, bridging the Creator Economy with television and streaming in a way that drives both cultural relevance and long-term value.

Here’s what you’ll do day to day:
  • Build and define Sixteenth Studios as a premium unscripted production arm across television and streaming.
  • Develop, package, and sell unscripted formats and docuseries to networks and streaming platforms.
  • Build and manage a pipeline of original concepts, taking multiple projects from idea through pitch and sale.
  • Identify and secure Creator and traditional talent to anchor projects.
  • Translate Creator-led ideas into scalable formats, franchises, and repeatable series.
  • Oversee an active slate of productions from development through post and delivery.
  • Lead the creation of development materials, including decks, sizzles, casting tapes, and presentations.
  • Oversee development shoots, pilots, and presentations, including staffing showrunners, directors, producers, and editors.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with buyers, agents, talent, and production partners.
  • Stay ahead of trends across both the Creator Economy and unscripted television.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams including Marketing, PR, Social, and Business and Legal Affairs.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • 7–10+ years of experience in unscripted television development and production.
  • Proven track record of developing and selling unscripted series that have made it to air.
  • Strong relationships with networks, streamers, and buyers.
  • Experience packaging projects with talent, Creators, and production partners.
  • Deep understanding of formats, franchises, and what actually sells.
  • Experience overseeing productions from development through post.
  • Strong creative instincts paired with sound business judgment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Clear point of view on where unscripted is going.
  • Understanding of and interest in the Creator Economy.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
