Primordial Soup is an AI-native storytelling studio. We create original films, series, and emerging forms of cinematic storytelling while building the creative tools that make them possible.

Working at the intersection of technology, filmmaking, and culture, we partner with leading AI labs, studios, brands, and creators to redefine how stories are imagined and made.

We're looking for a Head of Studio to lead our content business, shape our slate, and drive strategic growth. This is a senior leadership position at a high-growth start up. It is not a traditional studio job. We are building a studio from the ground up and many of the projects we produce won't fit neatly into existing categories. The ideal candidate is excited by the challenge of finding new and creative ways to tell stories and cultivate fanbases.

The Role

As Head of Studio, you'll be responsible for the company's content strategy and studio operations. You'll oversee the development, production and commercialization of our slate, including digital-first creator content, feature films, television series, and branded content. You'll work closely with the founder and leadership team to define how the studio invests its resources and to move projects from idea to market.

What You'll Do

  • Lead our content business, from strategy through execution

  • Identify, structure, negotiate, and close deals with individual creators, studios, brands and technical partners

  • Build and manage a development pipeline, guiding creators from concept to execution of content that can be scaled across multiple platforms

  • Oversee strategy for marketing, audience growth and fan engagement – and build a team to execute on it

  • Help determine which projects move forward and how resources are allocated across our slate

  • Work alongside our Head of Production to oversee content and production budgets

  • Represent Primordial Soup externally across the entertainment, technology, and creative communities

  • Stay ahead of emerging trends in new media, AI, entertainment, and storytelling to identify new creative and commercial opportunities

What You'll Do

  • Extensive experience in creative development, digital media, and/or studio leadership

  • A proven track record building, scaling, and monetizing IP

  • Fluency in digital distribution — including social media, YouTube, FAST, and SVOD — and how to build audiences and monetize content across multiple platforms

  • An ability to recruit and lead creative and operational teams

  • Experience managing production budgets and P&L performance

  • Strong relationships with creators, talent representatives, distributors, and brands

  • Confidence operating between legacy media and the creator economy

  • A forward-thinking entrepreneur with a genuine curiosity in the future of storytelling

  • A strong communicator capable of representing Primordial Soup’s strategic vision internally, with investors, and the press

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
