About the location:

Overlooking the Venetian Lagoon and just steps from Piazza San Marco, Danieli, a Four Seasons Hotel, Venice is an iconic property offering elegant, spacious accommodations. The historic hotel showcases majestic Venetian architecture dating back to the 14th century. Guests can also enjoy spectacular views of Venice’s landmarks from the rooftop Restaurant Terrazza Danieli.

About the Role:

As Head Sommelier, you will lead the wine program with vision, expertise, and a deep passion for oenology, curating exceptional experiences that complement the hotel’s culinary identity.

What You Will Do:

  • Oversee the full wine program, including selection, purchasing, inventory control, and cost management.
  • Develop and maintain a dynamic, balanced wine list that complements the culinary identity and enhances the dining experience.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Chef and Food & Beverage leaders to create harmonious food and wine pairings that enhance the culinary experience.
  • Supervise and support the wine service in all dining venues, private events, and VIP occasions.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate sommeliers and service teams to ensure a consistent level of expertise, confidence, and guest engagement.
  • Ensure proper storage, rotation, and presentation of all wines in alignment with Four Seasons standards and cellar management best practices.
  • Engage with guests to offer personalized recommendations and enhance their dining experience through storytelling and thoughtful service.

What You Bring:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of sommelier or wine service experience in a luxury hotel, fine dining, or Michelin-starred restaurant, including at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Fluency in English and Italian
  • Certified Sommelier qualification from the Court of Master Sommeliers, WSET Level 3 (or equivalent certification) preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect authentically with guests and inspire your team.
  • Proven leadership and organizational abilities, fostering a professional, motivated, and service-oriented team culture.
  • Proficiency in POS and inventory management systems related to Food & Beverage operations.
  • A refined sense of taste, attention to detail, and a genuine passion for creating memorable experiences through wine.
