About Nevoya:

Nevoya is North America's leading next-generation electric trucking carrier, transforming logistics through AI-native operations and relentless customer focus. The company builds and uses proprietary technology to deliver zero-emissions carrier services to Fortune 500 shippers with superior economics and service to legacy diesel operators. The company has operations in California and Texas, and is backed by globally-renowned investors including Lowercarbon Capital.

About The Role:

The Head of Safety and Compliance owns Nevoya's safety and regulatory compliance strategy end to end, ensuring driver and fleet operations meet all DOT, FMCSA and state-level requirements. This is a strategic leadership role for someone who has moved beyond individual execution and is ready to build, scale, and lead a compliance function as Nevoya's fleet grows. You will set policy, build out processes and potentially a team, represent safety and compliance to executive leadership, and act as the final word on regulatory risk across the organization.

What You'll Do:

  • Own Nevoya's overall safety and compliance strategy, setting policy and standards across all locations

  • Build, scale, and lead a team responsible for driver qualification, fleet compliance, and safety operations

  • Oversee drug and alcohol testing programs, random testing, and Clearinghouse management at a program level

  • Own the audit strategy for driver qualification files, vehicle files, and fleet documentation, ensuring constant audit readiness

  • Serve as Nevoya's primary point of contact for DOT, FMCSA, and CHP audits, inspections, and citations

  • Oversee hours-of-service and ELD compliance programs at scale, including platform strategy and vendor relationships

  • Own insurance strategy and broker relationships, including COIs, claims escalation, and risk mitigation

  • Set and monitor company-wide KPIs for safety performance, compliance rates, and audit outcomes

  • Build corrective action frameworks and safety training programs that scale across a growing fleet

  • Report directly to operations leadership on safety and compliance risk, trends, and recommendations

  • Partner with finance, legal, and operations leadership on regulatory risk, insurance costs, and compliance investment decisions

  • Represent Nevoya in front of regulators, insurance partners, and external auditors as the senior compliance leader

What We're Looking For:

  • 10-15+ years of experience in fleet safety and DOT compliance, including experience building or leading a compliance function

  • Demonstrated experience owning safety and compliance strategy for a carrier, not just execution, ideally at a company that scaled its fleet

  • Deep expertise in DOT, FMCSA, and CHP regulations, audit procedures, and documentation standards

  • Experience managing or building teams responsible for compliance operations

  • Track record of representing an organization directly to regulators and auditors

  • Experience with DQ files, vehicle files, DVIRs, ELD platforms (Samsara preferred), and Clearinghouse programs at scale

  • Strong executive presence and the ability to communicate risk and strategy to senior leadership

  • Highly organized with the ability to balance strategic ownership with hands-on problem solving when needed

  • Valid driver's license with the ability to visit terminals or field sites as needed

    • Travel to Dallas and Houston (possibly travel to California quarterly for Safety Meetings with drivers)

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience building a safety and compliance function from an early or scaling stage

  • Previous IFTA reporting experience

  • Experience with Samsara or similar fleet management systems at a multi-terminal scale

At Nevoya, we believe diverse teams build better solutions.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
