This is a hybrid role based in our Los Angeles or Bay Area Office and will require you to be in office Tuesdays and Thursdays.

What’s so interesting about this role?

Privacy is vital to Grindr (NYSE: GRND) and our 14 million users across almost every country in the world. As the Global Gayborhood in Your Pocket, we’re expanding the premier social network for the GBTQ+ community with a growing suite of innovative AI-driven products and services – all of which require a strong privacy foundation.

We’re seeking a strategic, hands-on privacy executive to lead our Privacy function. You will own and mature our privacy program and help ensure responsible use of AI across our products and our company. In addition to managing a small team, you’ll be a trusted advisor and daily contributor to high-impact decisions.

What’s the job?

  • Lead and evolve our privacy program, including operationalizing privacy by design and default, to enable Grindr’s continued growth through privacy-protective innovation, partnering closely with our Product, Engineering, Ads, and other teams

  • Guide the company to ensure compliance with and manage risk under privacy, data security, and AI regulatory frameworks (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, EU AI Act, U.S. state AI laws), in partnership with our Legal and Government Affairs teams

  • Partner with our Data and Cybersecurity team leaders to manage and enhance our data governance program

  • Support privacy-related litigation and manage our response to data subject requests, privacy incidents, and regulatory inquiries

  • Conduct risk assessments related to data processing and lead incident response protocols related to data breach or privacy incidents

  • Report to our General Counsel & Head of Global Affairs and serve as a member of Grindr’s leadership team

  • Manage and mentor a lean privacy team while also contributing directly to day-to-day privacy work

  • Represent Grindr externally and drive internal company-wide education and awareness efforts on privacy and AI topics

What we'll love about you

  • 10+ years of relevant experience, including as a Chief Privacy Officer, Deputy CPO, or senior privacy counsel

  • Significant experience counseling on privacy and data protection at a product-driven technology company serving at least millions of users

  • Deep knowledge of global privacy laws and emerging AI regulations, including familiarity with the legal landscape around algorithmic transparency and automated decision-making

  • Excellent judgment, communication skills, and ability to provide clear, pragmatic guidance in ambiguous or fast-moving situations

  • Comfortable leading strategy and contributing hands-on execution in a fast-moving, dynamic, high-performing environment

  • JD or equivalent legal degree strongly preferred

What you'll love about us

  • Mission and Impact: Grindr is building the global gayborhood in your pocket. Your role will impact the lives of millions of LGBTQ+ people around the world. Through our success, we are making a world where the lives of our community are free, equal, and just.

  • Family Insurance: Insurance premium coverage for health, dental, and vision for you and partial coverage for your dependents.

  • Retirement Savings: Generous 401K plan with 6% match and immediate vest in the U.S.

  • Compensation: Industry-competitive compensation and eligibility for company bonus and equity programs.

  • Queer-Inclusive Benefits: Industry-leading gender-affirming offerings with up to 90% cost coverage, access to Included Health, monthly stipends for HRT, and more.

  • Additional Benefits: Flexible vacation policy, monthly stipends for cell phone, internet, wellness, food, and commuting, breakfast/lunch provided onsite, and yearly travel & leisure stipend.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
