  • Design and implement scalable hiring processes, structured interview frameworks, and consistent hiring standards
  • Manage internal recruiting resources and external search partners

HR Operations & Compliance

  • Partner with legal and finance to manage employment agreements, policies, and documentation

 Performance, Retention & Culture

  • Design and implement performance management frameworks, feedback cycles, and career development paths
  • Build compensation, leveling, and equity frameworks aligned with company growth and market benchmarks
  • Develop and execute retention strategies for critical technical and operational talent
  • Shape and reinforce company culture as the organization scales

 Systems & Infrastructure

  • Own and optimize HRIS, ATS, and people analytics systems (e.g., Rippling, Greenhouse, or similar)
  • Establish people metrics and dashboards (headcount, attrition, hiring velocity, engagement)
  • Continuously improve HR processes for scale, clarity, and efficiency

Required Skills / Experience:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in HR or people operations with clear career progression and increasing scope of responsibility
  • Demonstrated experience owning the full HR lifecycle, including recruiting, compliance, performance management, compensation, and employee relation
  • Prior experience building or scaling people processes in a startup or high-growth environment
  • Strong working knowledge of California employment law and HR best practices
  • Proven ability to partner with executive leadership on organizational design and workforce planning
  • Ability to operate strategically while remaining hands-on in an evolving organization
  • Strong judgment, communication, and stakeholder-management skills

Preferred Skills / Experience:

  • Experience in manufacturing, hardware, aerospace, defense, robotics, energy, or other industrial environments
  • Familiarity with regulated or compliance-driven workforces (e.g., ITAR, export controls, government contracting)
  • Experience scaling a company from ~20–30 employees to 100+
  • Prior experience supporting a venture-backed company through Series A or Series B
  • Experience partnering closely with finance on compensation, equity, and headcount modeling
  • Experience implementing or scaling HRIS / ATS systems (e.g., Rippling, Greenhouse, Lever, etc.)

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
