💻 RoleWe’re looking for a strategic, creative, and action-oriented Head of Internal Communications to help shape how Whatnot connects with the people who make it all happen – our team. You’ll partner across departments to share what matters, surface the work that’s moving the company forward, and keep a steady pulse on how we’re doing along the way.
This role reports to the VP of Communications & Policy and will collaborate closely with leaders across the business. Whatnot is a special place, and we are looking for a builder who’s excited to rethink how internal comms can fuel clarity, connection, and culture at scale.
Build the system - then break it when needed. You’ll own and evolve our global internal communications strategy. From regular updates to team specific needs and launches, you’ll design programs that keep people in the loop and inspired.
Protect what makes Whatnot special. As we scale, so should our culture - but not at the expense of what makes us, us. You’ll help ensure our values, tone, and way of working shine through every communication touchpoint.
Be a trusted partner to our leaders. You’ll work side-by-side with org leaders and cross-functional leads to translate strategy into stories people understand, care about, and act on.
Make the right message land in the right place. You’ll audit and evolve our internal channels - Slack, All-Hands, you name it - so our comms are timely, useful, and not lost in the scroll.
Measure what matters. You’ll bring a data mindset to internal comms, setting goals and using feedback and metrics to improve how we inform and engage the team.
Team members in this role are required to be within commuting distance of our San Francisco, Los Angeles, or New York City hubs.
👋 YouCurious about who thrives at Whatnot? We’ve found that embodying a low ego, growth mindset, and high-impact drive goes a long way here.
As our next Head of Internal Communications, you should have at least 8+ years of communications experience, with at least a few in-house at a fast-paced tech company, marketplace, or creator-focused platform, plus:
Have built (and rebuilt) internal comms programs from scratch, especially in times of growth, change, or scale.
Know how to take something complex or nuanced and distill it into something meaningful, human, and useful.
Love internal communications - but are just as comfortable jumping into a broader comms project or rolling up your sleeves in a fire drill.
Have experience partnering with execs and can influence without adding noise.
Comfortable presenting and delivering messages in both small and large groups.
Are fluent in tools like Slack and Loom - and curious about what else might work better.
Believe measurement matters, and have ideas for how to track internal engagement and impact.
Move fast, stay flexible, and bring energy to what you do - even when things are messy.
You’ve worked in or around the ecommerce, live commerce, or creator economy spaces.
You’ve worked in a founder-driven environment.
You’re comfortable with, and excited by, using AI to streamline your workflow, sharpen your strategy, and scale your impact.
You’ve shipped comms strategies for hybrid or globally distributed teams.
