About Vana

Vana is a layer-1 blockchain designed for user-owned data. Its mission is to build a decentralized data economy where individuals and communities can collectively own, govern, and earn from the data that powers artificial intelligence. By enabling data to exist as a new form of capital—liquid, composable, and verifiable—Vana provides the foundation for a more equitable and open AI ecosystem.

Built with privacy-preserving architecture, Vana allows users to contribute and permission data through DataDAOs—decentralized data collectives that pool user-contributed data for specific use cases, from mental health to genomics to social media. The network’s proof-of-contribution mechanism ensures that every data provider is fairly rewarded, while developers can build new data applications and liquidity pools on top of the protocol.

Following the launch of its mainnet and native token, $VANA, the network has become one of the fastest-growing ecosystems in Web3, with over a million contributors participating across hundreds of DataDAOs. As the ecosystem scales and token operations expand, Vana is seeking a Head of Finance to bring financial rigor, treasury management, and strategic discipline to a rapidly growing decentralized organization at the frontier of data and AI.

The Opportunity

This role is ideal for a technically sophisticated finance leader who combines the analytical rigour of traditional finance with a strong enough grasp of crypto market mechanics or a strong willingness to learn. The Chief Financial Officer will manage Vana’s capital strategy across fiat, token, and treasury holdings, bridging between the foundation, development company, and trading ecosystem.

You’ll advise the founders on liquidity, market structure, and macroeconomic trends impacting digital assets, while maintaining strong relationships with market makers, investors, and partners. This is a hands-on, high-trust environment that demands precision, discretion, and excellent judgment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Treasury Management

  • Determine and manage the optimal allocation between $VANA, stablecoins, and fiat reserves.

  • Design and execute treasury allocation, hedging, and yield strategies to minimize risk and preserve long-term runway.

  • Develop and implement financial mechanisms (e.g., buybacks, liquidity programs, staking strategies) that enhance network stability and sustainability.

2. Token & Asset Management

  • Manage liquidity across all exchanges where $VANA is traded, in coordination with market makers and liquid funds.

  • Oversee relationships with market makers, funds, and trading desks to ensure adequate liquidity and orderly markets.

  • Manage $VANA token and other digital asset holdings across the Foundation and affiliated entities, ensuring strategic alignment and market efficiency.

3. Financial Advisory & Tokenomics Strategy

  • Assess macroeconomic and market conditions to inform treasury allocation, liquidity management, and capital strategy.

  • Advise on internal tokenomics design, including $VANA supply schedules, on-chain liquidity, and token trading dynamics.

  • Evaluate major financial transactions, investments, and partnerships across the Foundation and development company.

  • Build financial models and scenario analyses to guide token and treasury strategy under varying market conditions.

4. Financial Management & Reporting

  • Oversee accounting, budgeting, and cashflow management across the Foundation and development company.

  • Maintain audit readiness and ensure compliance with all tax and regulatory reporting requirements.

  • Implement disciplined internal controls and a consistent financial reporting cadence.

  • Deliver accurate, timely, and actionable financial insights to support leadership decision-making.

5. Investor, Market & Partner Relations

  • Partner with the founders on fundraising, capital strategy, and investor engagement.

  • Build and manage relationships with market makers, trading desks, funds, exchanges, and other strategic partners.

  • Track and manage relationships with major $VANA token holders to support strategic ecosystem alignment.

  • Negotiate and structure liquidity, treasury, and investment deals to advance long-term financial objectives.

6. Web3 / Token-Specific Expertise (Nice to Have):

  • Deep understanding of DeFi, token liquidity management, and market-making structures.

  • Familiarity with major trading firms, funds, and counterparties across the crypto ecosystem.

  • Ability to engage intelligently in token strategy discussions to protect and advance Vana’s financial and reputational interests.

Ideal Profile
  • Background in finance, investment banking, venture capital, or corporate finance, with direct exposure to crypto, DeFi, or Web3 markets.

  • Demonstrated experience managing treasury strategy, liquidity, and investor relations in high-growth environments.

  • Strong grasp of financial instruments, trading structures, and market mechanics relevant to digital assets.

  • Deep integrity and discretion; understands incentive misalignment risks in crypto and acts with transparency and accountability.

  • High emotional intelligence and relationship fluency; capable of managing investors, market makers, and partners with credibility and composure.

  • Systems thinker who brings structure and discipline to complex, fast-moving financial ecosystems.

  • Mission-aligned: motivated by building a sustainable data economy, not by short-term financial extraction.

Additional Notes
  • The ideal candidate should be comfortable navigating the intersection of traditional finance and crypto culture.

  • Familiarity with liquidity provisioning, token flows, and KOL/MM dynamics is beneficial but not essential.

  • Strong preference for candidates who can bring discipline and trustworthiness i.e. “grown-up energy”, to a space that often lacks both.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
