We’re building the future of immersive, user-generated worlds, where anyone, anywhere, can connect, play, explore, and express themselves.

We’re looking for a Head of Creative Studio to help lead VRChat’s live ops Events and Content pipeline. Steward our regular content drops and event cadences with speed while maintaining a high bar for creative quality.

This is a high-collaboration leadership role. You’ll partner closely with our Director of Design and our Art Team Manager, who have laid a foundational direction for our creative strategy. We’re looking for someone who can own and advance our creative quality bar, bringing clarity, taste, and strong production leadership to make the work scalable and consistently shippable.

You’ll manage our internal art team, work alongside our production leads, and partner with engineering to keep the content pipeline healthy: clear briefs, strong reviews, smooth handoffs, and predictable delivery.

What You’ll Do

  • Own and operate the live ops Events and Content pipeline end-to-end. Planning, briefing, production tracking, reviews, integration coordination, and release readiness.
  • Steward and elevate VRChat’s creative strategy for live ops content, upholding a high bar while evolving the system with the team over time (style continuity, quality, and cohesion).
  • Partner with the Director of Design and Art Team Manager to align on creative direction, review norms, and quality standards, so the team has clear principles and consistent decision-making.
  • Lead and support our internal art team with a collaborative, feedback-forward culture: clear goals, strong critique habits, and an emphasis on sustainable output.
  • Run external studio collaboration in a way that feels like an extension of the team: strong briefs, fast and respectful feedback loops, clear acceptance criteria, and healthy relationships across partners.
  • Translate creative goals into shippable reality by working closely with engineering on performance constraints, asset requirements, and integration needs.
  • Reduce rework and increase throughput by improving docs, templates, review checklists, and lightweight processes.
  • Make tradeoffs visible, keep stakeholders aligned, and drive clarity to enable our creative teams to do their best work.

Who You Are

  • You have 8+ years in game development or real-time content production, with meaningful experience shipping ongoing content (live ops, events, seasonal drops, or frequent updates).
  • You’ve operated in environments where success depends on collaboration and influence, not top-down hierarchy. Bring in structure, alignment, and momentum without steamrolling teams.
  • You have strong experience working with external studios & vendors, and you know how to get great results through clear briefs, thoughtful feedback, and reliable delivery.
  • You bring excellent creative judgment, but you don’t rely on taste alone. You build systems that help teams make good decisions repeatedly.
  • You’re comfortable partnering with engineering and production to ensure assets are performant and shippable, and you can translate constraints into guidance the team can actually use.
  • You’re low-ego and high-agency. You listen, align, communicate clearly, and drive execution.

Bonus Points

  • Experience scaling an art/content pipeline across multiple platforms.
  • Experience evolving outsourcing strategy (vendor selection, capacity planning, quality frameworks).
  • Familiarity with UGC ecosystems, social platforms, or creator-driven content economies.
  • Comfort with production tooling (Jira, Linear, etc.) and operational metrics (rework rate, cycle time, acceptance rate).

Benefits

  • Work from anywhere! VRChat is a 100% remote company offering flexible working hours in combination with core hours supporting real-time collaboration
  • Health benefits for U.S. and Canadian employees
  • 401K (U.S.) and RRSP (Canada) retirement plans
  • Stock options
  • Unlimited/flexible vacation policy
  • Paid parental leave
  • Generous holiday schedule

VRChat is an equal-opportunity employer, and we welcome applicants from all backgrounds. VRChat fosters a diverse, creative, and collaborative environment where anyone can contribute to any of the ongoing projects or direction of the roadmap at any time.  If you’re a passionate team player who wants to have an impact on a dynamic team, we’d love to hear from you!

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
