About the role

NewsBreak is building ReelBee, an open short-drama distribution platform where any qualified creator or studio can self-publish, earn a transparent revenue share, and get real US audience insights. This is a CEO-sponsored, company-level initiative. As Head of Content & Supply you will own the supply side: what content gets on the platform, on what terms, and how we know it works. This role works across the US and China; we are hiring in parallel in the SF Bay Area (Mountain View) and Beijing.

What you'll do
  • Own the content supply strategy across PGC (Chinese studios and AI studios, overseas platform catalogs, US creators) and UGC; be accountable for catalog scale, quality and return
  • Define selection criteria and the content tagging taxonomy; co-build with the data team a "score → test → feedback" title-selection system calibrated by real performance data (CTR, completion, paid conversion, per-title return)
  • Build and manage 50+ supplier and rights-holder relationships; lead acquisition negotiations (buyout / minimum guarantee / rev-share), contracts and launch; secure premiere and exclusivity windows; avoid over-exposed catalog titles
  • Creator fund and creator ecosystem (phase 2): once the first wave of China-side supply is live, work with the US Creator Relations lead to design a fund, partnership models and revenue-share rules for US-based creators
  • Track US / China / global charts and audience trends; publish insights for internal teams and creators on what performs with our audience
  • Partner with Growth on scaling strategy for titles that win in testing; run post-mortems on hits and misses
  • Hire and lead content operations, supplier BD and creator relations
What we're looking for
  • 5+ years in short drama, web fiction or digital video, including 2+ years in content acquisition, distribution or content strategy at an overseas short-drama platform (ReelShort, DramaBox, ShortMax, NetShort, GoodShort, FlexTV, Melolo) or a leading Chinese platform
  • Established China-side supply network: existing relationships with studios, AI studios or rights holders, able to start first deals within 30 days
  • Verifiable hit judgment: titles you personally selected or signed that performed, with the data to show why
  • Data-driven: comfortable with completion, conversion and per-title ROI as the basis for decisions, and with having your calls tested and revised
  • Strong negotiation and deal-structuring skills across buyout, MG and rev-share models
  • Professional fluency in English and Mandarin; can read US audience data and feedback
  • Belief in the open-platform model: transparency and data attract better supply than exclusivity
Nice to have
  • Creator fund / creator program / MCN experience
  • Familiarity with AI short-drama production and the leading AI studios; ability to judge AI-drama quality and cost
  • Ties to US film schools, independent production or writer communities
  • TikTok/YouTube short-drama channel or revenue-share operations experience
  • 2+ years managing a team
  • Deep familiarity with US mainstream audience tastes and cultural context
The US base salary range for this full-time position is listed below. Pay may vary based on a number of factors including job-related skills, level, experience, geographic location and relevant education or training. At NewsBreak, we design our overall rewards package to attract top talents. Depending on the position, the role may also be eligible for discretionary bonus and options. Your recruiter can share more details during the hiring process.
Annual Base Pay Range
$180,000—$240,000 USD

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
