Inertia is hiring a Head of Content & Storytelling to lead and execute content production for the commercial fusion energy company taking the most direct, scientifically proven path to putting fusion energy on the grid. Following our $450M Series A, this role is central to building the company’s reputation and credibility in an exciting time of growing momentum - amplifying our visibility and helping key audiences understand and support our path to building star power for life on Earth.

This role will translate our company story, technical progress, and milestones into clear, compelling content that reaches investors, the public, government stakeholders, partners and the specialized talent critical to our work.

The Head of Content & Storytelling will lead content strategy and delivery across company platforms and channels, working closely with technical and business leaders and partners needed to ensure high-quality reach and engagement across channels. Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer & Head of External Affairs, this position is a hybrid role based at Inertia’s Livermore, CA headquarters.

What You’ll Do

1. Build and run the content function

  • Develop and manage the company’s content strategy, editorial calendar, publishing cadence, and production workflows.

  • Create stories that differentiate the company and reinforce its positioning, brand, and voice.

  • Turn milestones, company progress, team expertise, and market context into clear, compelling narratives.

  • Produce written and visual content, and manage external contributors as needed.

2. Translate technical work into accessible content

  • Partner with technical teams to understand complex topics and identify strong storylines.

  • Distill technical and operational information into accurate, credible content for priority audiences.

  • Manage review processes with subject matter experts to ensure accuracy and consistency.

3. Own and grow company channels

  • Lead content strategy and execution across owned channels and priority platforms.

  • Develop and refine content formats and channels based on audience needs and company goals.

  • Monitor performance and engagement, using insights to improve reach and effectiveness.

  • Identify opportunities to extend reach through partners, experts, industry conversations, and third-party platforms.

4. Support broader communications and stakeholder engagement

  • Develop content and materials for company initiatives, events, announcements, recruiting, partnerships, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Prepare messaging, briefing materials, presentations, talking points, and written content for executive, press, partner, government, community, and investor engagements.

  • Partner with PR, creative, government relations, internal teams, and external agencies to ensure consistency across communications.

What You’ll Bring

Required

  • B.S. degree and 5+years of experience in content, editorial, communications, storytelling, or a related field

  • Demonstrated success creating written and visual content that shapes how audiences understand or engage with a company, category, product, or idea

  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to distill complex or technical topics into compelling content across platforms and formats

  • Strong editorial judgment and attention to detail, with a clear understanding of how content shapes company reputation and credibility

  • Experience growing engagement with target audiences, measuring reach and impact, and evolving strategies to improve effectiveness

  • Ability to build and maintain strong partnerships with technical experts, business leaders, communications partners, external agencies, and contributors

  • Proactive self-starter who consistently delivers with a high degree of accountability, independence, urgency, and curiosity

Preferred

  • Exposure to a startup or fast-moving company environment.

  • Experience with complex, technical, scientific, energy, climate, infrastructure, or industrial subject matter.

Salary & Benefits

  • The base salary range for this role is $145,000 - $180,000; The pay range provided is an estimated base range for this role. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and education.
