The Head of Competitive Insights is a technical leadership role within Zoom's PSI (Product Solution & Industry) Marketing team, focused on delivering deep competitive intelligence and strategic market positioning that drives value for Product Marketing, Product Management, and Sales & GTM teams. This role combines hands-on technical analysis with team leadership, managing a team of competitive architects while personally driving advanced competitive research, threat assessment, and strategic differentiation initiatives.

You'll serve as the strategic partner for understanding competitive landscapes through proven competitive intelligence methodologies, analyzing technical product capabilities, and translating complex competitive dynamics into actionable business intelligence. In an era where AI is transforming competitive intelligence, you'll leverage emerging technologies and methodologies to enhance traditional analysis while maintaining strategic rigor in your approach.

Zoom is the leader in modern enterprise video communications, with an easy, reliable cloud platform for video and audio conferencing, collaboration, chat, and webinars across mobile devices, desktops, telephones, and room systems.

Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Technical Direction

  • Lead Competitive Architects Team: Build, develop, and mentor a small team of competitive architects and technical analysts, fostering excellence in competitive intelligence and technical analysis

  • Technical Strategy: Set technical research priorities, allocate specialized resources, and ensure alignment with product and engineering roadmaps

Competitive Intelligence & Technical Analysis

  • Deep Technical Competitive Analysis: Conduct comprehensive technical evaluations of competitor products, APIs, architectures, and capabilities across video, collaboration, and communication platforms

  • Competitive Architecture Mapping: Lead technical teardowns, feature comparisons, and architectural assessments to understand competitive positioning and identify differentiation opportunities

  • Threat Assessment: Monitor emerging competitors, disruptive technologies, and market shifts that could impact Zoom's technical leadership

Strategic Intelligence & Positioning

  • Strategic Framework Application: Apply competitive intelligence methodologies including Porter's Five Forces, war gaming, four corners analysis, and other strategic frameworks to assess competitive positioning

  • AI-Enhanced Intelligence: Leverage AI and emerging technologies to transform traditional competitive intelligence practices, implementing new tools and methodologies that enhance analysis speed and depth

  • Competitive Battlecards: Develop and maintain technical battlecards, competitive positioning frameworks, and sales enablement materials for complex technical evaluations

  • Win/Loss Technical Analysis: Lead technical aspects of win/loss analysis, focusing on product capabilities, technical requirements, and competitive technical objections

  • Market Disruption Monitoring: Track patent filings, technical publications, and emerging technologies that could reshape the competitive landscape

Product & Engineering Partnership

  • Product Strategy Support: Partner with Product and Engineering teams to inform roadmap decisions based on competitive technical intelligence

  • Technical Requirements Analysis: Analyze competitor technical specifications, performance benchmarks, and architectural approaches to identify gaps and opportunities

  • Innovation Intelligence: Monitor competitive R&D activities, technical hiring patterns, and technology investments

Sales & Technical Enablement

  • Third-Party Vendor Management: Interface with external vendors and research firms to conduct specialized competitive evaluations, technical assessments, and market analysis when internal resources require augmentation

  • Technical Sales Support: Provide competitive technical intelligence for complex enterprise deals and technical evaluations

  • Competitive Training: Develop technical training programs for sales engineers and solution architects on competitive positioning

What we're looking for

  • Experience: 8-12 years of experience in competitive intelligence, technical product management, or engineering roles, with 4+ years managing technical teams

  • Technical Leadership: Track record of leading technical analysts, competitive architects, or similar specialized technical roles

  • Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of video/audio technologies, cloud architectures, APIs, SaaS platforms, and enterprise communication systems

  • Competitive Intelligence Discipline: Deep expertise in competitive intelligence methodologies, strategic analysis frameworks (e.g. Porter's Five Forces, war gaming, four corners analysis), and advanced intelligence gathering techniques

  • Analytical Skills: Advanced technical analysis capabilities with experience in performance testing, architectural evaluation, and technical documentation

  • Strategic Analysis: Experience applying strategic frameworks and competitive intelligence best practices to drive business decisions

  • AI & Technology Adaptation: Demonstrated ability to leverage AI tools and emerging technologies to enhance competitive analysis and intelligence gathering

  • Industry Certifications: Professional certifications in competitive intelligence (e.g., SCIP certification) or strategic analysis preferred

  • Competitive Architecture: Experience with technical competitive analysis tools, benchmarking frameworks, and architectural assessment methodologies

Salary Range or On Target Earnings:

Minimum:

$126,500.00

Maximum:

$276,700.00

In addition to the base salary and/or OTE listed Zoom has a Total Direct Compensation philosophy that takes into consideration; base salary, bonus and equity value.

Note: Starting pay will be based on a number of factors and commensurate with qualifications & experience.

We also have a location based compensation structure;  there may be a different range for candidates in this and other locations
