Why Standard Fleet?

Standard Fleet is building the next generation of fleet management software. We treat vehicles as first-class citizens—so operators can connect to, track, and manage their fleets without installing cumbersome aftermarket “dongles.” We started with EVs, and now we’re building the platform for every drivetrain: electric, hybrid, and ICE. Our mission is to modernize commercial transportation by setting a new standard for how fleets are connected, operated, and scaled.

Every member of the Standard Fleet team is fueled by a deep passion for transportation and is committed to making our products meaningfully better each week. We come from companies like Apple, Uber, Tesla, Stripe, Yelp, and Embark. We’re growing quickly, having raised $20m in total funding.

Standard Fleet is well-funded and backed by some of Silicon Valley's top investors. Some of our founding team members, including our CEO David Hodge, previously founded Embark, a popular mobility software company that was acquired by Apple. We’ve succeeded before and we’re now back at it and swinging for the fences.

We're seeking a Head of Business Operations, reporting to the CEO, to own the operational and financial engine that powers everything we build. You'll inherit a lean, high-performing team, a strong foundation, and be responsible for scaling it into something exceptional. This is a rare opportunity for a seasoned operator who wants the mission, the ownership, and the challenge of building at a company that's already moving fast.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop a team of four spanning customer operations, customer experience, and business operations. Set direction, raise the bar, and build career paths.

  • Own Automaker OEM and aftermarket device partnerships end-to-end, from pipeline development and evaluation through negotiation and ongoing relationship management.

  • Drive strategic finance and accounting for the company, including financial modeling, burn and revenue tracking, scenario planning, and external financial relationships (R&D credits, tax accounting).

  • Own the customer experience and operations function, ensuring fleet operators are supported at the highest level while building the systems and playbooks that scale as we grow.

  • Partner directly with the CEO and leadership team on strategic initiatives, resource allocation, and cross-functional prioritization.

  • Identify operational bottlenecks and build the processes, tooling, and automation that eliminate them before they become problems.

  • Deeply understand our customers, our market, and our unit economics — and use that understanding to inform how we operate and where we invest.

Qualifications
  • We don’t believe in qualification checkboxes for candidates. These often cause great candidates to think they’re not qualified. If you think you can help us scale our business, let’s talk and see if we’re a fit.

You might be a good fit if…
  • You have 10+ years of experience in high-performance environments — startups, growth-stage companies, consulting, or investment banking — with a track record of building and scaling operational functions.

  • You've managed teams before and know how to hire well, develop people, and hold a high bar without micromanaging.

  • You're an exceptional financial operator: comfortable owning a model, stress-testing assumptions, and presenting to investors and the board.

  • You've built and closed strategic partnerships, and understand what it takes to move deals forward with large organizations like Automaker OEMs and infrastructure providers.

  • You think in systems: when something breaks or slows down, your first instinct is to fix the root cause and build something so it doesn't happen again.

  • You're a true generalist who gets energized by context-switching; from a partnership deck in the morning to a financial forecast in the afternoon to a customer escalation by EOD.

  • You're excited about using AI and automation to 10x your team's output and eliminate work that doesn't need to exist.

  • You have a passion for electric vehicles and the future of transportation.

  • You have high standards and a strong work ethic. You always bring your best and expect your colleagues to do the same.

Benefits
  • 💰 Competitive salary, commission, & equity

  • 🩺 Top notch health, dental, & vision insurance

  • 📈 401(k) retirement plan & match

  • 💻 All equipment provided by Standard Fleet

  • 🚗 First-time EV owner subsidy

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
