The Role

We’re looking for a strategic, craft-obsessed, and highly collaborative Head of Brand Design to lead and scale Hex’s brand as we build a generational company in the data and analytics space. Design matters deeply at Hex. We’ve built a strong brand foundation over the past few years. It’s cohesive, respected, and has range. But we’re not iconic yet. The opportunity is to take what exists and push it into something truly distinctive.

This role sits at the intersection of brand, product, and go-to-market. You’ll own and define the long-term brand vision at Hex across all touch points. You will be an integral voice in an innovative and forward-looking design culture where creative excellence is valued at the highest levels of leadership.

This is a hands-on leadership role: you’ll set the direction and raise the bar, while empowering a growing team to ship work they are proud of.

Learn more about Design at Hex.

What you’ll doDefine & evolve the brand vision
  • Own and evolve Hex’s visual identity and brand system
  • Translate company strategy and product positioning into a distinctive brand that resonates with technical, data-driven teams.
  • Ensure consistency and clarity across all channels: web, product marketing, campaigns, events, social, and sales materials
  • Work closely with the Product Design organization to ensure Hex feels cohesive across product and brand experiences
Build & lead the Brand Design function
  • You’ll lead and grow a small but high-impact Brand Design team responsible for web, product launches, campaigns, events, and creative storytelling
  • Recruit, manage, and grow a high-performing brand design team
  • Foster a culture of craft, speed, and thoughtful critique
Drive cross-functional impact
  • Partner with Marketing, Product Marketing, Growth, Sales, and Product to ensure cohesive storytelling
  • Elevate product launches and major campaigns through strong creative direction
  • Support executive communications and high-visibility initiatives
  • Champion high craft and strong storytelling across the company
  • Hex’s brand and product experiences are closely connected. Brand design partners deeply with Product Design and Engineering to ensure the experience feels cohesive everywhere users encounter Hex.
What we’re looking forExperience
  • 10+ years in brand design, with significant experience in B2B or SaaS
  • 4+ years leading and scaling creative or brand teams
  • Experience building or evolving brand systems at high-growth companies (Series B–D preferred)
  • A portfolio that demonstrates strategic thinking, identity systems, digital excellence, and high craft standards
Skills
  • Deep expertise in visual identity systems, typography, layout, and digital design
  • Strong creative direction and feedback skills
  • Ability to balance long-term brand vision with short-term business needs
  • Comfort influencing senior stakeholders and cross-functional partners
  • Strong understanding of how brand supports product-led growth and technical audiences
You might be a great fit if you…
  • Care deeply about craft, detail, and thoughtful systems
  • Can move fluidly between strategy and execution
  • Want to build a generational brand that resonates with technical, data-driven teams
What success looks like

Within 12 months:

  • Hex has a clearly articulated and scalable brand system
  • The Brand Design team operates with clarity, efficiency, and high morale
  • Major campaigns and launches feel cohesive and differentiated.
  • Internal teams view Brand as a strategic partner, not just a service function
  • Hex’s market presence feels sharper, more confident, and more recognizable
  • Hex has a defined and scalable approach to video and motion, with strong creative standards and a clear model for how the function operates

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
