Job Description

We are seeking a strategic and forward‑thinking leader to serve as the Head of Data Platform & AI First Line Risk Management, responsible for building and leading a best‑in‑class first line risk management function within our technology and data organization. This role oversees risk management for enterprise data platforms, AI/ML systems, and emerging technologies—ensuring innovation is delivered responsibly through strong governance, proactive risk identification, and integrated, scalable control design.

You will play a critical role in shaping Fannie Mae’s data and AI risk governance strategy and trusted AI risk management framework, partnering closely with senior leaders to strengthen enterprise risk management practices and guardrails across platforms and technologies

Position is based out of Plano, TX. Fannie Mae does provide the opportunity for relocation assistance.

The Impact You Will Make

You will enable responsible AI and data innovation by embedding strong governance, controls, and risk discipline directly into technology and platform lifecycles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the vision, strategy, and roadmap for Data Platform and AI first line risk management.
  • Build and lead a high‑performing team of risk professionals aligned to data, AI, and platform domains.
  • Partner with senior technology, data, and business leaders to embed risk management into product, platform, and engineering lifecycles.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on AI, data, and emerging technology risks, including evolving regulatory expectations.
  • Establish and mature risk frameworks for:
    • AI/ML models and agent‑based systems
    • Enterprise data platforms (data lakes, warehouses, streaming, and cloud ecosystems)
    • Data governance, privacy, and model risk
  • Drive proactive risk identification, assessment, and mitigation across the technology and data stack.
  • Oversee risk appetite alignment, issue management, and control effectiveness.
  • Lead governance for responsible and trusted AI, including explainability, bias and fairness, transparency, third‑party and vendor AI risk, and controls for agentic and autonomous systems.
  • Design and embed scalable, automated first‑line controls into platforms and engineering workflows, including CI/CD pipelines, data pipelines, and AI lifecycle processes.
  • Ensure controls are measurable, testable, and aligned to enterprise standards.
  • Collaborate closely with second‑line risk, compliance, audit, and regulatory partners.
  • Represent the function in governance forums, risk committees, and executive reviews.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience in technology risk, data risk, AI risk, operational risk, or related disciplines.
  • Deep understanding of first line risk management within highly regulated organizations.
  • Proven leadership experience building and scaling risk or technology functions.
  • Familiarity with AI governance frameworks and regulatory expectations.
  • Executive presence with the ability to influence senior and C‑suite stakeholders.
  • Strong strategic thinking combined with hands‑on execution capability.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Shows curiosity and adaptability in learning and responsibly applying new technologies, including artificial intelligence, to reimagine how we work.

  • Advanced degree (MBA, MS in Data/AI, or related field)

The hiring range for this role is set forth below. Final salaries will generally vary within that range based on factors that include but are not limited to, skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and other relevant qualifications.
