Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) seeks a Harness Electrical Design Engineer to join our Experimental Systems Group (ESG) in Seal Beach, CA.
ESG supports a variety of government customers spanning technology domains, and is an extremely fast-paced, responsive development environment delivering new capabilities to customers rapidly and affordably. The ESG portfolio consists of a range of platforms and technologies including the X-37B, the world's first fully autonomous reusable spaceplane, which is currently performing its eighth mission.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Apply working knowledge of harness design and construction.
  • Apply familiarity with SAE AS50881, Wiring Aerospace Vehicle, and NASA-STD 8739.4, crimping, interconnecting cables, harnesses, and wiring.
  • Work on a variety of projects at different phases of design maturity from conceptual to operational.
  • Work closely with harness routers to integrate logical elements with the physical elements to produce a harness that will install and function properly at the next assembly.
  • Apply familiarity with program software design and release tools: Teamcenter and Siemens EDA (formerly Mentor Graphics).
  • Own the hardware for all phases of the harness life cycle Performance of Response Engineer (RE).
  • Coordinate with suppliers and spacecraft factory operations in the procurement and refurbishment of spacecraft system for upcoming missions.
  • Oversee harness integration and functional testing of the spacecraft.
  • Plan and execute integration and test activity with manufacturing engineers, planners, and technicians.
  • Develop harness specifications and test procedures.
  • Read and interpret complex heritage drawings and coordinate revisions and configuration changes with the design team as needed to support future missions.
  • Perform real time trouble shooting and issue resolution, including the disposition of non-conformances (NCs).

This position requires an active Top Secret U.S. Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Ability to upgrade to TS/SCI.
  • Years of related experience: 3+ for level 3, 5+ for level 4.
  • Wire harness product lifecycle experience.
  • Wire harness design, wire harness installation, or equipment installation experience.
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Teamcenter and Siemens EDA (formerly Mentor Graphics) experience.
  • Harness design experience.
  • Schematic Capture experience.
  • Electrical Design experience.

Typical Education & Experience:
Level 3: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Level 4: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. Summary pay range:
Level 3: $119,850 - $162,150
Level 4: $146,200 - $197,800
