About Radiant

Radiant is an El Segundo, CA-based startup building the world’s first mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors. The company’s first reactor, Kaleidos, is a 1-megawatt, fail-safe microreactor that can be transported anywhere power is needed and run for up to 5 years without refueling. Portable nuclear power with rapid-deploy capability can replace similar-sized diesel generators and provide critical asset support for hospitals, data centers, remote sites, and military bases. Radiant’s unique, practical approach to nuclear development leverages modern software engineering to rapidly deliver safe, factory-built microreactors that use existing, well-qualified materials. Founded in 2020, Radiant is on track to test its first reactor at the Idaho National Laboratory this summer, with initial customer deliveries beginning in 2028.

About the Role

Radiant is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the design, build, and maintenance of Radiant's electrical test infrastructure for Kaleidos, Radiant's commercial microreactor unit targeted for deployment in 2028. You will take ownership of test infrastructure development, including HIL systems and other electrical test platforms, while driving integration and validation across critical systems. This role is ideal for an experienced electrical engineer with deep hands-on expertise in test infrastructure who is ready to own technical decisions across electrical integration, validation strategy, and test environment development. You will have the opportunity to shape the electrical test infrastructure supporting the first high-temperature gas-cooled portable microreactor ever to be commercialized.

Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Own the design, build, and maintenance of electrical test infrastructure, including test benches and other test platforms as the program evolves.

  • Define electrical and software integration requirements spanning power distribution, signal conditioning, sensor mapping, actuator interfaces, and device simulation.

  • Own communication and integration between hardware, control systems, and software interfaces.

  • Lead the electrical validation strategy; develop, execute, and iterate on test procedures and methodologies.

  • Assemble, debug, and troubleshoot electrical test hardware and harnesses with minimal guidance.

  • Execute test procedures, collect data, and lead analysis across multiple test environments.

  • Drive optimization of test and validation processes and lead improvements in tooling and automation.

  • Lead design reviews and communicate technical decisions to cross-functional stakeholders.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • BS in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in electrical engineering, including hardware design, integration, and test.

  • Demonstrated experience owning and building electrical test infrastructure.

  • Proficiency with DAQ and test platforms such as dSpace, NI PXI, Speedgoat, or similar.

  • Hands-on experience with data acquisition, test execution, and validation frameworks.

  • Strong electrical and software debugging and troubleshooting skills.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:
  • Experience with real-time simulation systems and FPGA-based hardware.

  • Strong understanding of control fundamentals and software testing processes.

  • Experience with trace capture tools or data acquisition and analysis tools.

  • Background in high-reliability, safety-critical, or regulated industry environments (aerospace, defense, nuclear, medical, or automotive).

  • Comfortable owning multiple test environments and defining new test infrastructure as program needs evolve.

Additional Requirements
  • Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as necessary to accomplish our mission.

  • Must work 100% onsite at El Segundo HQ.

Benefits and Perks
  • Stock: Substantial incentive stock plan for all full-time employees.

  • Medical: 100% up to base silver level plan for employee + 50% dependents, offers up to Platinum plans.

  • One Medical: Sponsored memberships for employees and their dependents.

  • Vision: 100% top tier plan coverage + 50% for dependents.

  • Dental: 100% top tier plan coverage, orthodontia extra, 50% for dependents.

  • Voluntary life, accident, hospital, critical illness, commuter and FSA/HSA are offered as employee contributed benefits.

  • 8-weeks of paid parental leave for all parents. Additional paid pregnancy leave for CA employees.

  • Daily catered lunch. Free snacks and drinks.

  • Flexible PTO policy. Remote workday allocation.

  • Company and team-bonding events, happy hours and in-person camaraderie.

  • Beautiful El Segundo headquarters close to the Pacific Ocean.

Total Compensation and Benefits
Radiant compensates people for impact and invests in those who continue to raise the bar. Radiant’s new hire compensation package includes base salary, substantial equity grants, and comprehensive health benefits. Total compensation and level are determined through a rigorous evaluation of interview performance, experience, education, and qualifications, and are designed to support continued growth as scope, responsibility, and impact expand at Radiant.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
