About the Role

We’re looking for a Group Strategy Director to lead strategic thinking for one of the world’s most iconic tech brands. You’ll sit at the intersection of creativity, data, and culture—owning end-to-end strategy across campaigns, platforms, and partnerships.

This isn’t a classic planning role. You’re orchestrating, and innovating, across disciplines—from Comms and CRM to Social, Experience, and Culture. You’ll guide your team through the complexity of integrated marketing and inspire strategic excellence across brand, product, and performance.

This is a leadership role for a cross-capable thinker who can operate in real time, unlock scaled creativity through AI, drive proactive strategic thinking, elevate the creative product, and ultimately grow the business. You’re both a visionary and a doer, equally comfortable in C-suite rooms and creative collab rooms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead Strategic Development: Own the strategic vision across key accounts, uniting brand, product, comms, and cultural strategy to drive business impact and creative excellence.
  • Client Leadership: Act as a senior strategic voice to top-tier client stakeholders. Translate business needs into actionable, insight-driven strategies and champion them internally.
  • Cross-Disciplinary Orchestration: Collaborate fluidly across departments—Experience, Social, CRM, Culture, and Data—to ensure strategy is integrated from pitch-to-delivery.
  • AI-Forward Strategy: Leverage AI tools and thinking to accelerate strategy development and deliver scale across creative and media workflows.
  • Real-Time Intelligence: Shift from static reports to live, real-time cultural and competitive insights. Elevate team capabilities to engage with always-on trends and brand moments.
  • Strategic Tools & Frameworks: Implement shared strategic tools—Brand Compass, Strategy-on-a-Page, Comms Calendars, Culturegraphics—to create alignment and clarity across teams.
  • Creative Collaboration: Partner closely with creative leadership (ECDs, CCOs) to spark work that competes with the industry’s best. Help elevate our creative reputation in-market.
  • Thought Leadership & Visibility: Raise your presence internally and externally. Champion our best work, lead strategic showcases, and contribute to Monks’ voice in the industry (e.g. Cannes, ROAR, Culture of the State reports).
  • Entrepreneurial Growth: Identify client pain points and whitespace opportunities. Drive proactive ideas that position us for organic growth beyond the brief.
  • Team Development: Mentor and develop strategic talent at all levels. Inspire the next generation of hybrid, real-time, AI-fluent strategists.
About YouThe essentials:
  • You’re a multi-disciplinary strategist who can think big, move fast, and lead across brand, comms, performance, and product.
  • You have 15+ years of experience in strategy roles within creative agencies, consultancies, or forward-leaning brands.
  • You think in culture, commerce, and code—grounded in insights, fluent in tech, and inspired by creativity.
  • You’re passionate about AI’s potential in marketing, and actively explore how it scales and sharpens strategic delivery.
  • You lead with clarity and collaborate like a builder, comfortable in ambiguity and skilled at aligning diverse teams around a shared vision.
  • You love storytelling, not just reporting. You bring sharp hypotheses, rich context, and bold narratives to every brief.
  • You’re not waiting for the ask—you’re chasing the opportunity. Entrepreneurial and proactive by nature, always seeking new ways to create impact.
  • You’re globally-minded, tuned into what’s happening across markets, platforms, and pop culture.

At Monks, we believe in fostering an environment where a diversity of perspectives can thrive. We proactively work to design hiring processes that promote equity and inclusion while mitigating bias. We celebrate diversity and are committed to building a team that reflects the communities we serve. We welcome and encourage qualified applicants, from all backgrounds, who are excited to contribute to our mission.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
