The position is accountable for proactively soliciting and handling sales opportunities for The Cassara Carlsbad, Tapestry Collection by Hilton. It will ensure business is turned over properly and in a timely fashion for proper service delivery. Assists in leading all day-to-day activities related to sales with a focus on building long-term, value-based customer relationships that enable achievement of sales objectives. Achieves personal sales goals.

This position is a SEASONAL position, with an estimated end date of September 22nd, 2026.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Building Successful Relationships that Generate Sales Opportunities

  • Works collaboratively with off-property sales channels to ensure sales efforts are coordinated, complementary and not duplicative.
  • Builds and strengthens relationships with existing and new customers to enable future bookings. Activities include sales calls, entertainment, FAM trips, trade shows, etc.
  • Develops relationships within community to strengthen and expand customer base for sales opportunities.
  • Manages and develops relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provides accurate, complete and effective turnover to Event Management.

Managing Sales Activities

  • Participates in sales calls with members of sales team to acquire new business and/or close on business.
  • Executes and supports the operational aspects of business booked (e.g., generating proposal, writing contract, customer correspondence).

Using Knowledge of Market Trends and Target Customer Information to Maximize Revenue

  • Identifies new business to achieve personal and location revenue goals.
  • Understands the overall market - competitors’ strengths and weaknesses, economic trends, supply and demand etc. and knows how to sell against them.
  • Closes the best opportunities for the location based on market conditions and location needs.
  • Gains understanding of the location’s primary target customer and service expectations; serves the customer by understanding their business, business issues and concerns, to offer better business solution.

Providing Exceptional Customer Service

  • Supports the company’s service and relationship strategy, driving customer loyalty by delivering service excellence throughout each customer experience.
  • Services our customers in order to grow share of the account.
  • Executes and supports the company’s customer service standards.
  • Provides excellent customer service consistent with the daily service basics of the company.
  • Sets a positive example for guest relations.
  • Interacts with guests to obtain feedback on product quality and service levels

 

Other:

Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position.  Employees with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel.  In addition, attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings is required.

 

Upon employment, all employees are required to fully comply with The Cassara Carlsbad, Tapestry Collection by Hilton rules and regulations for the safe and effective operation of the hotel’s facilities.  Employees who violate hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS

In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the manager based upon the particular requirements of the hotel:

  • Professionally represent the resort in community and industry organizations and events.
  • Participate as team player with all departments.
  • Assist with reports and/or competition data collection.
Qualifications

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Position will be required to work a varied schedule that may include evenings, nights, and weekends.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
  • Must be able to read and write to facilitate the communication process.  
  • Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Most tasks are performed in a team environment with the employee acting as a team leader.  There is minimal direct supervision.
  • Knowledge of all departments of resort.
  • Ability to communicate customer needs and resolve complaints independently.
  • Ability to establish and master goals.
  • Ability to identify and develop accounts.
  • Ability to act independently with minimal or no supervision.
  • Must possess basic computational ability.  
  • Must possess computer skills, including, but not limited to, accounting programs, Microsoft Word, Excel and Sales Management Systems (ISAC preferred).
  • Math skills, as well as budgetary analysis capabilities required.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state and local laws governing equal employment opportunity and civil rights, occupational safety and health, wage and hour issues, and labor relations, including, but not limited to the following statutes and their comparable state and local laws (where applicable): Title VII, ADEA, Equal Pay Act, Pregnancy Discrimination Act, FLSA, ADA, OSHA, FMLA, and NLRA.

Physical Demands

  • Most work tasks are performed indoors.  Temperature is moderate and controlled by resort environmental systems.
  • Must be able to sit at a desk for up to 5 hours per day.  Walking and standing are required the rest of the working day.  This may include traveling to and from meetings.  Length of time of these tasks may vary from day to day and task to task. 
  • Must be able to exert well-paced ability to reach other departments of the resort on a timely basis.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs. occasionally.
  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and subordinates.
  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.
  • Must have finger dexterity to be able to operate office equipment such as computers, printers, 10-key adding machine, electric typewriter, multi-line touch tone phone, filing cabinets, FAX machines, photocopiers, dolly and other office equipment as needed. 

Education & Experience          

  • High school or equivalent education required.  Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Past resort sales experience preferred.
  • Three to five years group sales experience for highly successful proven Sales Manager
  • Must have experience at properties of similar size and quality.


Licenses or Certificates          

  • Must have valid CDL and meet the requirements of our Driver’s Insurance.

All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance per Westin/Sheraton Carlsbad’s standards.
