Ground Segment Infrastructure Architect

About Satellogic

Satellogic is a vertically integrated Earth Observation company that designs, manufactures, and operates satellite systems, delivering decision-grade insights at scale to government and commercial customers.

We build space systems end-to-end, from satellite design and manufacturing to launch and on-orbit operations, giving us the ability to deploy quickly, operate reliably, and support persistent monitoring across regions and priority areas. Our approach moves customers beyond one-off imagery toward continuous awareness and alert-driven decision-making, with flexible pathways that can evolve from managed monitoring to full satellite ownership and sovereign control.

Our technology supports a wide range of use cases across climate monitoring, agriculture, energy, infrastructure, defense and intelligence, helping organizations detect change, manage risk, and plan with confidence.

With a team distributed across five countries, Satellogic brings together expertise in satellite engineering, software development, data science, manufacturing, operations, and go-to-market. We’re a group of purpose-driven builders who value ownership, curiosity, and execution—and who work with humility, honesty, and empathy.

The Role

We're hiring an IT Infrastructure Architect to build and own our cloud-to-on-prem migration practice. You'll design the migration strategies that move our systems off the cloud and onto customer-owned infrastructure, advise customers directly on the hardware and facilities they need to host our systems, and develop the training programs that transfer operational knowledge to their teams. You'll be the technical authority on what "on-prem" means for our infrastructure, defining the architecture, the tooling, and the playbook that doesn't exist yet today. You’ll be fully responsible for the deployment of our ground segment systems to our customers’ premises, prioritizing robustness, standardization and scalability and in coordination with our IT, Mission Operations and Product Teams to ensure our strategy for Sovereign customers is in line with our company’s technology strategy.

This person will be embedded within the Sovereign Solutions team, working hands-on across the full lifecycle of a deployment — from architecture through go-live and customer training.

What You'll Do

Cloud-to-on-prem migration strategy

  • Define the strategy and technical approach to deploy our ground segment infrastructure on our Sovereign customers premises or private cloud
  • Identify AWS dependencies (managed services, networking, storage, IAM, etc.) across the ground segment subsystems and define on-prem equivalents or replacements
  • Partner with our IT infrastructure and engineering teams to sequence and de-risk the migration, incorporating lessons learned from parallel cloud migration work as it progresses
  • Build repeatable migration tooling and documentation so future on-prem deployments don't start from zero

Pre sales support and post sales execution

  • Determine the scope, cost and lead time for the deployment of ground segment infrastructure, collaborating with Sales to write technical proposals
  • Translate the ground segment's compute, storage, networking, and redundancy requirements into concrete hardware specifications and vendor/procurement recommendations
  • Advise the customer on facility and site-readiness requirements (power, cooling, physical security, network connectivity) needed to host the system
  • Act as the primary technical point of contact for the customer's infrastructure planning, reviewing their procurement decisions against system requirements
  • Act as primary responsible for the execution of signed agreements in all things related to deployment of the ground segment, in collaboration with your colleagues in the Sovereign Solutions team, our Project Management Office, Engineering and IT.

Training curriculum design & delivery

  • Design a training curriculum that takes the customer's operations staff from zero to independently operating and maintaining the on-prem infrastructure
  • Develop training materials (runbooks, hands-on labs, troubleshooting guides) appropriate for a customer team that is standing up both the facility and the staff from scratch
  • Conduct in-person and/or remote training sessions with customer personnel, including travel to the customer site as needed

What You'll Bring

  • Deep experience with cloud infrastructure (compute, storage, networking, IAM) and hands-on experience migrating workloads off of it to on-premise or hybrid environments
  • Strong systems/infrastructure architecture background — comfortable specifying hardware (servers, storage arrays, networking gear) to meet defined performance, redundancy, and security requirements
  • Experience designing and delivering technical training to external, non-expert audiences
  • Comfortable operating with significant ambiguity — this migration path doesn't exist yet internally, and you'll be defining it
  • Strong English written and verbal communication skills; ability to work cross-functionally with engineering and directly with customer stakeholders
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally regularly for extended periods

Nice to Have

  • Experience with satellite ground segment systems, or other mission-critical/regulated on-prem infrastructure (defense, telecom, industrial)
  • Experience running cloud-to-on-prem migrations under a customer contract with fixed milestones
  • Spanish language proficiency

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
