Who are we hiring?
Sphere Studios is seeking a Graphic Designer to join our growing Creative & Design team. This role goes beyond traditional presentation or marketing design — it’s about helping shape the visual language of a groundbreaking immersive medium. We’re looking for a designer who can transform breakthrough ideas into reality, developing work across a wide range of formats and mediums that support all of Sphere’s creative needs — from our 16K wraparound media plane, to our 360º Exosphere canvas, to experiential design, installation, print, digital and more.

As a key member of the team, you’ll balance technical precision with creative vision. You’ll thrive in a fast-moving, high-volume environment that embraces ambitious solutions and adapts quickly as innovative possibilities emerge. From concept to final execution, you’ll help define Sphere’s visual output while staying attuned to cultural trends, emerging technologies and new approaches in design. While your primary focus will be on graphic design, you’ll also have opportunities to contribute to motion design, concept art, and other creative disciplines that support immersive storytelling.

What will you do?

  • Collaborate with creative leads and art directors to develop visual concepts and design systems for immersive experiences, artist residencies, brand collaborations, marketing campaigns.
  • Deliver compelling design solutions across a variety of platforms — from live experiences and interactive installations to digital and print production.
  • Create original graphics, typography, layouts, and visual narratives across media such as scenic design, brand activations, display ads and admats, wayfinding, etc.
  • Translate ideas into clear visual stories through concept sketches, style frames and mood boards.
  • Design and refine creative briefs, pitchdecks, case studies, and styleguides/brandguides.
  • Experience in Powerpoint and Keynote is a plus.
  • Contribute to early concept art and motion design efforts when needed, supporting multidisciplinary creative pipelines.
  • Work with external partners and productions teams to ensure brand integrity and design quality through production and final delivery.
  • Uphold Sphere’s brand standards, ensuring that each deliverable is both thoughtful and polished.
  • Research and draw inspiration from art, design, film, gaming, fashion, music, and culture to keep creative approaches original and forward-thinking.

What do you need to succeed?

  • 5+ years of professional experience in a fast-paced creative agency, design studio, or in-house environment.
  • Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign); familiarity with Figma, After Effects, Unreal Engine and other design tools a plus.
  • A solid foundation in typography, layout, composition, and color theory.
  • Strong understanding of grid systems, hierarchy, and visual structure with experience designing for both digital and print.
  • Production fluency across print and digital, with an understanding of technical requirements and best practices for deliverables across all mediums including prepress, production mechanicals/tech packs, digital asset optimization, versioning/templatization, etc.
  • Ability to translate creative concepts into refined visual designs with attention to detail and consistency.
  • Comfortable taking direction from creative leads while also contributing original ideas and creative problem-solving.
  • Strong communication skills — able to clearly explain design thinking to both creative and non-creative stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, adapt to shifting priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-moving environment.
  • A collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary creative team.
  • A portfolio showcasing range across print and digital design, with a solid technical foundation.
  • Interest in or exposure to motion design, concept art, immersive media, or real-time graphics is a plus.

Special Requirements

  • Requires occasional travel and non-conventional work hours.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
