Openbank Pay leverages the technological resources and expertise of Openbank, the digital-native bank of the Santander Group, which is currently rolling out its international expansion plans. Through a simple and flexible banking model, Openbank offers customers the possibility to manage their finances on the website or app.

Role Summary

The Global Tech Lead – Openbank Pay is accountable for defining, building and running the global technology platform of Openbank Pay, ensuring it operates as a scalable, resilient and secure Checkout Lending and Consumer platform.

The mission of the role is to enable Openbank Pay to be a relevant customer acquisition vehicle for Santander, easy and fast to scale across markets, products and partners, while ensuring strong alignment with Openbank and Group Technology governance, architecture principles and risk standards.

The Global Tech Lead ensures the successful execution of the global roadmap, the stability and performance of the platform, and the continuous evolution of its technology capabilities to support growth, cross-sell opportunities and international expansion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and own the global technology strategy and roadmap for Openbank Pay, ensuring alignment with Product, Risk and Group Technology.

  • Lead the end-to-end architecture, build and run of all platform components, including merchant integrations, API layer, portals, user applications, financing engines, risk & fraud capabilities, payment processing modules, and accounting & settlement integrations.

  • Ensure seamless integration with Openbank and Santander local tech stacks where needed (e.g., payments, accounting, reporting), managing dependencies and shared services effectively.

  • Guarantee high availability, performance, scalability and operational resilience of the platform, with strong monitoring, observability and incident management practices.

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, security and data protection requirements applicable to the payments and consumer lending perimeter.

  • Enable global expansion by delivering scalable capabilities to support new products, new partners and new countries.

  • Oversee technical validation, architecture governance and investment sizing for initiatives within the Openbank Pay domain.

  • Drive cost efficiency and financial discipline across the global technology stack, optimizing infrastructure and third-party services.

  • Foster a strong engineering culture, promoting agile methodologies, DevSecOps practices, innovation and continuous improvement.

  • Build, lead and develop a high-performing global technology team with clear ownership, accountability and collaboration across markets.
