Change.org is searching for a Global Social Strategy Lead to provide strategic and creative oversight for our global social channels, ensuring cohesion, quality, and innovation across 13 markets. Reporting to the Head of Social Growth, you’ll set the creative direction, drive viral content performance, and act as the strategic lead and creative editor for our social presence worldwide. You’ll guide and mentor teams to produce high-impact, social-first content, building playbooks and tools that scale globally, and lead ongoing experimentation to uncover what makes Change.org’s stories resonate and spread.

We’re a social impact business (a public benefit company), and the world's largest social change platform with 100 million users, 40,000+ campaigns launched on the site every month, and a 100% user-generated revenue model. Our users win campaigns for change once every hour. We’re working for a world where no one is powerless, and where creating change is a part of everyday life. We’re just getting started and hope you’ll join us!

From mobilizing over 5 million people to investigate the fires in the Amazon, to mobilizing nearly 3 million against war and famine in Yemen, to large-scale mobilizations for the people of Iran and against the war in Ukraine, and calling for Racial Justice in the US, many movements were born on Change.org. Dozens of local, national, and international victories are happening every day thanks to the strength of our members who are changing the lives of people around the world. We want to help them go even further and we need your help!

Key Outcomes

In your first six months, success in this role will look like:

  • You’ve established a clear, high-quality global social strategy with creative standards, frameworks, and playbooks that are actively used across 13 markets.
  • You’ve raised the bar for content performance and storytelling, especially in short-form and viral video, with repeatable formats that consistently reach audiences in the hundreds of thousands.
  • You’ve become a trusted mentor and strategic partner to in-country social leads, helping teams create cohesive, innovative, and high-impact content.
  • You’ve taken ownership of existing social media tools and processes, ensuring teams are using them effectively, and identified opportunities to improve workflows and recommend new tools where needed.
  • You’ve begun evaluating which social platforms offer the greatest opportunity for Change.org’s growth, identifying where to deepen investment, where to experiment, and where to scale back.
  • You’ve taken ownership of a global “Viral Video experiment,” uncovering what makes Change.org’s stories achieve strong reach within each market and translating those insights into practical creative guidance for every team.
  • You’ve started to provide guidance and best practices to global teams on building and managing influencer and creator partnerships that amplify campaign reach and engagement.

Core Competencies

You’ll thrive in this role if you bring:

  • Strategic and creative leadership: You can set a bold global vision for social media, define what great looks like, and inspire teams to meet that standard.
  • Cross-cultural collaboration: You know how to influence, guide, and mentor a variety of teams, whether across regions or focus areas, even when you don’t manage them directly.
  • Social media expertise: You have a deep understanding of what makes content perform on platforms like TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, X, and more, and you stay ahead of evolving trends.
  • Content and campaign design: You have a strong creative eye for social-first storytelling and viral video formats that connect with audiences and spark action.
  • Process and tooling leadership: You’re skilled at identifying and rolling out tools and systems that help creative teams move faster and smarter.
  • AI fluency: You’re comfortable experimenting with AI-powered tools for ideation, optimization, and workflow efficiencies, and you’re curious about what’s next.
  • Influencer and creator collaboration (nice to have): Experience identifying, approaching, and collaborating with creators and influencers is a plus, especially if you’ve used these partnerships to expand reach or credibility for social campaigns.

Target Experience

We’re looking for someone who brings:

  • At least 8 years of experience in social media strategy, content leadership, or digital campaign management.
  • Demonstrated creative direction experience, with a strong understanding of how engaging social content is developed, from concepting and scripting to reviewing and refining final outputs, including hands-on experience with social-first video content creation.
  • A track record of building and scaling social campaigns that achieve viral reach and real impact.
  • Experience developing playbooks, creative frameworks, and mentoring teams to raise the quality and consistency of social content.
  • Hands-on experience evaluating and rolling out social media tools that improve creative efficiency and performance.
  • Familiarity with using AI tools for trend analysis, creative ideation, or content optimization.
  • Bonus points for experience working in influencer ecosystems, across multiple global markets, or in fast-moving, startup-style environments.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
