Req ID: FEQ127R98

We are seeking a technically savvy, visionary Global Head of Technical Scale and Strategy (FE) to partner with the SVP of Field Engineering and the broader leadership team of a 3,000-person global organization within Databricks. This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of a rapidly growing tech company by defining and executing strategies that drive scale, productivity, and technical excellence.

This is not a traditional strategy or operations role; you will be deeply embedded in the technical heart of Field Engineering, running centralized technical functions and helping design the operating model for the future. You will work closely with leaders across Product, Sales, Finance, People, and engineering teams to determine where global consistency is critical, where accountability should sit within business units, and which experiments to run to optimize organizational performance.

In this role, you will also help drive a high-performing, AI-driven builder culture, identifying ways to leverage AI, automation, and tooling to increase efficiency, improve decision-making, and enable teams to focus on the highest-impact work. This is a high-visibility, high-impact role for someone who thrives at the intersection of strategy, execution, and technical leadership.

The impact you will have:

  • Technical Leadership & Centralized Functions: Lead and operate core technical and centralized functions across Field Engineering, ensuring they scale effectively and support the broader organization.
  • Future Operating Models: Define, design, and test innovative operating models for the organization, deciding where to centralize, where to push accountability to BUs, and which initiatives to pilot.
  • Strategic Planning & Execution: Partner with the SVP and leadership team to set long-term organizational strategy, drive critical initiatives, and ensure cross-functional alignment.
  • AI-Driven Productivity & Innovation: Enable a builder-first, AI-first culture by identifying opportunities to leverage AI, tooling, and automation to improve productivity and impact across the org.
  • Cross-Functional Influence: Collaborate with Product, Sales, Finance, People, and other teams to ensure strategic initiatives are executed effectively and priorities are aligned.
  • Organizational Insight & Experimentation: Use data, experience, and technical expertise to identify bottlenecks, test new approaches, and recommend solutions that optimize performance and growth.
  • Change Leadership & Communication: Drive adoption of new models, processes, and initiatives while ensuring clarity, engagement, and alignment across leaders and teams.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Deep technical understanding of field engineering organizations, enterprise solutions, and technology strategy, with the ability to assess and evolve end-to-end Field Engineering models.
  • 10+ years of experience in strategy, business operations, or technical leadership in high-growth technology companies.
  • Proven ability to define strategy and execute at scale in complex, technical organizations.
  • Experience running centralized technical or operational functions and influencing distributed teams.
  • Strong perspectives on leveraging AI, automation, and tooling to drive productivity, improve decision-making, and enable a builder-first culture.
  • Ability to envision the future of a global Field Engineering organization—including operating models, career ladders, team structures, and cross-functional alignment—and design practical pathways to get there.
  • Exceptional cross-functional collaboration and influence skills; comfortable working across Product, Sales, Finance, People, and technical teams.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and experimental mindset; comfortable testing new approaches and iterating based on data and outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with both internal leaders and external partners.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity, balancing innovation with operational rigor, and driving accountability across large, complex organizations.

Why Join
This is a highly visible, high-impact role at the center of a large, fast-growing global Field Engineering organization. You’ll have the opportunity to shape the strategic direction of the organization, work directly with a founder-SVP, and drive initiatives that fundamentally improve the effectiveness and scale of the business. This is a career-defining opportunity for a strategic leader who wants to operate at the forefront of organizational growth and transformation.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
