Ardent is seeking a GIS Application and Database Developer to join our team.
This is currently a remote position, but all candidates must reside in the Washington, DC (DMV) area and confirm that they are able to work a hybrid schedule onsite in Washington, DC as required.
Position Description:
Ardent is seeking a Junior GIS Developer to support the development, deployment, and integration of geospatial tools and systems. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in GIS principles and technologies, with at least two (2) years of GIS-related experience. While not required, experience supporting law enforcement, immigration, or border security organizations is highly desirable.
This position requires a strong technical background, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You will work as part of a dynamic team that supports mission-focused geospatial applications and data visualization projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop GIS tools and applications using Esri or other GIS software and programming environments, with an emphasis on web-based application development.
- Perform complex spatial analysis and produce multi-layered maps.
- Assist in software development, data manipulation, and digital database management.
- Design and implement data conversion procedures and quality control measures.
- Collaborate with users to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
- Support integration between Microsoft Power Apps, SharePoint, and geospatial systems.
- Participate in project planning, database design, and application testing efforts.
- Clearly communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences, both in writing and verbally.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in GIS, Geography, Cartography, Computer Science, or a related field with relevant GIS coursework or experience.
- Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in GIS and related development.
- Proficiency in GIS concepts, computer graphics, and relational databases.
- Experience developing GIS-based analyses and mapping solutions.
- Familiarity with GIS programming languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript, SQL), internet markup languages (e.g., HTML, XML), and data processing tools.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One (1) year of GIS experience supporting law enforcement, immigration, or border security operations.
- Experience with Microsoft PowerApps and SharePoint integration.
- Familiarity with Esri tools, ArcGIS Online, and Web AppBuilder or Experience Builder.
