Job Title: General Counsel
Location: This position is onsite in Irvine, CA.
Employment Type: Full-time
Pay Range: $180,000.00-$200,000.00 per year based on experience, qualifications, and skillset.


Position Overview:

As the General Counsel at Better Debt Solutions, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring legal compliance and providing strategic counsel to the executive leadership team. You will oversee all legal matters affecting the company, representing our legal interests, and providing strong corporate governance. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced legal professional to make a significant impact within a dynamic organization.


Key Responsibilities:

The General Counsel must be able to perform the following tasks:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, including internal and vendor agreements.
  • Provide counsel on legal compliance and advise leadership on laws, regulations, and legal risks.
  • Oversee corporate governance and all legal matters company-wide.
  • Represent the company’s legal interests before regulatory agencies, legislative bodies, and other entities.
  • Collaborate with executives on joint ventures, acquisitions, sales, and financing.
  • Manage legal strategy in response to litigation and legal proceedings.
  • Maintain company legal documents and filings, including intellectual property registrations.
  • Coordinate with outside counsel as needed

Required Qualifications:

The General Counsel must have the following experiences:

  • JD degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • 15+ years of legal experience, including real estate transactional and corporate expertise
  • Proven experience with various federal/state/local regulations in regards to the nature of a financial services and call center organization
    • (CAN-SPAM, CFPB, UDAAP, FCRA, FDCPA, TCPA, TSR, RESPA, ECOA, EFTA, SCRA, CA DFPI, etc.)
  • Preference will be given to candidates with in-house counsel experience in the real estate industry.
  • Expertise in structuring, drafting, and negotiating joint ventures, acquisitions, and corporate agreements.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with a direct and concise style.
  • Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills with sound judgment under tight deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High ethical standards and a proactive approach to challenges.
  • Gravitas and credibility to gain the confidence of executives.
