Bonfire Studios is building a roster of talented freelance Capture Artists to help bring our games to life through high-quality gameplay footage and in-game content. Whether we're creating trailers, b-roll, social media assets, or internal demos, we rely on skilled collaborators who can jump into debug environments, set up stunning shots, and follow creative direction with precision.

This is an independent contractor role. We’re looking to connect with artists on a rolling basis for upcoming needs—some projects may be short notice, others planned well in advance. If you're detail-oriented, thrive in development tools, and love capturing compelling gameplay moments, we’d love to hear from you.

How to Join Our Roster
This is an evergreen opportunity — we’re always looking to connect with creative freelancers for future projects. If you're interested in joining our roster, please apply below and take a moment to thoughtfully complete the application questions. Your responses help us match you with the right types of opportunities as they come up. We’ll be in touch when projects align with your skills and availability. Thanks for your interest in collaborating with Bonfire Studios!

What You’ll Do:

  • Help execute cinematic & gameplay shots through in-game “acting”
  • Use debug tools, cheat systems, and custom builds to stage and capture gameplay footage
  • Track and organize shot files and details for capture director review
  • Take screenshots or create short-form content (e.g., GIFs, social clips)
  • Support producer and dev team to implement quality of life capture features

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience with developer builds, replay systems, and in-game capture workflows
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work independently or with remote teams
  • Comfortable taking direction and reacting quickly in fast-paced creative environments
  • Solid organization and communication skills
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience in games or short form trailer production
  • Experience with competitive multiplayer PC games and game culture

Nice to Have:

  • Familiarity with game engines like Unreal or Unity
  • Background in QA, gameplay testing, or camera/debug tools
  • Experience working with Adobe tools (such as Premiere, After Effects)
  • Interest in game development, storytelling, and visual content creation

The hourly rate for this freelance/contract role is $30 USD per hour. As with all contract opportunities at Bonfire, we assess candidates holistically based on their potential impact, relevant experience, and alignment with the needs of the project. This is an independent contractor position and is not eligible for employee benefits or equity. We're happy to share more details about the work and expectations during the interview process!

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
