Flo is the world’s #1 health & fitness app worldwide on a mission to build a better future for female health. Backed by a $200M investment led by General Atlantic, we became the first product of our kind to reach a $1B valuation in 2024 – and we’re not slowing down.

With 7M paid subscribers and the highest-rated experience in the App Store’s health category, we’ve spent 10 years earning trust at scale. Now, we’re building the next generation of digital health – AI-powered, privacy-first, clinically backed – to help our users know their body better.

The job

We’re building simple, meaningful casual games for adults — experiences designed to support mental clarity, cognitive stimulation, and long-term brain engagement.

We’re not creating complex strategy systems or immersive fantasy worlds. Our games live inside a health-focused ecosystem. They are:

  • Lightweight

  • Accessible

  • Purpose-driven

  • Designed for daily use

We believe in simplicity done exceptionally well. Elegant mechanics over complexity.

As a Game Designer, you’ll craft intuitive casual game experiences that support cognitive longevity while driving engagement and retention.

You’ll design core mechanics that are easy to understand, satisfying to interact with, and meaningful to return to — every day.

You’ll work at the intersection of game design, behavioral science, and product thinking.

Your Experience

Must have:

  • Experience designing casual or hyper-casual games

  • Strong systems thinking with a simplicity-first mindset

  • Understanding of retention mechanics and player motivation

  • Comfort working with product metrics and A/B tests

  • Clear communication and structured documentation skills

  • Interest in cognitive health or behavioral science

  • Familiarity with mobile development (Unity is a plus)

What you'll be doing

You'll be responsible for:

  • Designing simple, intuitive casual game mechanics

  • Developing and iterating on engaging core loops

  • Balancing progression and difficulty scaling

  • Creating clear, structured, actionable game design documentation

  • Collaborating closely with product, analytics, and development teams

  • Improving mechanics using data insights and user feedback

  • Running experiments and contribute to A/B testing initiatives

  • Collaborating closely with product, analytics, and development teams - plus artists, animators

Your decisions will be grounded in measurable outcomes — not assumptions.

3 month contract - start ASAP (please note benefits do not apply to this role)

How we work

We’re a mission-led, product-driven team. We move fast, stay focused and take ownership – from brief to build to impact. Debate is encouraged. Decisions are shared. We care about craft, ship with purpose, and always raise the bar.

You’ll be working with people who take their work seriously, not themselves. It takes commitment, resilience, and the drive to keep going when things get tough. Because better health outcomes are worth it.

What you'll get

We support impact with meaningful reward. Here’s what that looks like:

  • Competitive salary and annual reviews
  • Opportunity to participate in Flo’s performance incentive scheme
  • Paid holiday, sick leave, and female health leave
  • Enhanced parental leave and pay for maternity, paternity, same-sex and adoptive parents
  • Accelerated professional growth through world-changing work and learning support
  • In-person collaboration and work in a hybrid model, with 3 days per week spent in the office
  • 5-week fully paid sabbatical at 5-year Floversary
  • Flo Premium for friends & family, plus more health, pension and wellbeing perks

Diversity, equity and inclusion

Our strength is in our differences. At Flo, hiring is based on merit, skill and what you bring to the role – nothing else. We’re proud to be an equal opportunity employer, and we welcome applicants from all backgrounds, communities and identities. Read our privacy notice for job applicants.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
