Game Creative Directors at Riot define and oversee the overall creative strategy for a product. You’ll create inspiring creative direction across experiences that genuinely surprise and delight our players. You ensure parity with product strategy and tie the product’s goals to the target audience. Creative direction is for the team; as the Creative Director acts as the intersection between aesthetics, design, story, and brand that evokes a visceral response in the user. You’ll represent the game at the IP strategy level and work with fellow Creative Directors to shape the future of the IP.

Riftbound is the League of Legends Trading Card Game.  As Creative Director for Riftbound: The League of Legends Trading Card Game, you will report to the executive producer and will provide creative direction for the game. The Creative Director brings together, guides, and inspires a group of multi-discipline developers to create something from nothing. A creative director is responsible to ensure alignment and cohesion across the game. They’ll make sure all choices fit the feel of the game and bring their intended experience to players. 

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Executive Producer to ensure Riftbound: The League of Legends Trading Card Game's product strategy is interwoven with our creative approach and long-term vision
  • Partner with the Game Director to sculpt thematics that support the game experience
  • Articulate the intended emotional experience of all aspects of the game
  • Define an inspirational north star that empowers creatives to navigate the unknown and bring a unified vision to life.
  • Ability to integrate characters, factions, and lore into impactful gameplay
  • Collaborating on branding & marketing aesthetics, ensuring consistency across promotional materials and in-game assets.
  • Keeping up to speed on industry trends and how competitor games evolve their mechanics, aesthetics and business models to drive acquisition, fandom, and engagement.
  • Strong Stakeholder communication with the ability to align with executive teams, marketing, and key partners. 
  • Understanding of digital economies and player retention strategies.
  • Directly connecting with player communities to understand their needs. 
  • Role will require occasional travel internationally (Quarterly)

Required Qualifications

  • 13+ years experience total in game development, either digital or physical. 
  • Experience shipping physical products 
  • Proven ability to successfully partner with contractors, creative agencies, and manufacturers.
  • Proven ability to successfully collaborate with individual artists and art teams. 
  • Operated as a key creative decision-maker on multiple games 
  • Experience working with multiple disciplines, particularly game design, to deliver on a goal
  • An excellent communicator that inspires by infusing a pitch with emotional intent 

Desired Qualifications

  • Shipped 1+ title as Creative Director with art-driven acclaim (e.g., Best Visual Design, Art Direction awards).
  • Fluency in League of Legends’ lore
  • Background in illustration, concept art, or graphic design.
  • Passion for TCG/CCG aesthetics and mechanics (e.g., Magic: The Gathering, Legends of Runeterra).
