  • Pitch and write compelling, original stories tailored to one or more of our brands—such as Outside, Backpacker, Yoga Journal, Triathlete, RUN, SKI, Climbing, Pinkbike, Velo, and more.
  • Collaborate with staff editors to shape pitches, meet deadlines, and respond to feedback.
  • Communicate clearly and promptly with editors throughout the assignment process.
  • Edit articles for grammar, clarity, structure, tone, and brand alignment.
  • Fact-check thoroughly and uphold high editorial standards in all work.
  • Follow SEO best practices and contribute to our digital publishing efforts.
  • Bring creative ideas for multimedia storytelling—including photo, video, or social media—when relevant.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrate proven experience writing or editing for digital or print media (experience with outdoor, fitness, or lifestyle publications is a plus).
  • Exhibit deep familiarity with—and real-world know-how of—outdoor recreation and active lifestyles.
  • Show strong storytelling skills and the ability to adapt voice and tone across different brands.
  • Exhibit excellent command of grammar, structure, and AP or brand-specific style.
  • Thrive in remote communication, quick turnarounds, and collaborative workflows.
  • Bring a genuine passion for the outdoors and for helping more people get outside.
Nice to Have
  • Bring familiarity with CMS tools like WordPress.
  • Offer skills in photography, videography, or multimedia storytelling.
