Fundraiser - $20/hr Guaranteed - North Hollywood / San Fernando Valley

$20/hr guaranteed + bonuses | 21-35 hours/week | North Hollywood / San Fernando Valley

Care about human rights, humanitarian aid, or the issues shaping your community? Turn that interest into paid, resume-building experience.

We're growing our North Hollywood fundraising team and looking for outgoing, socially aware people to represent leading international human rights and humanitarian organizations through face-to-face outreach across the San Fernando Valley and greater Los Angeles.

As a Face-to-Face Fundraiser / Canvasser, you'll speak with members of the public about urgent nonprofit campaigns, explain why the work matters, and invite people to support it by becoming recurring donors.

Depending on the campaign you're assigned to, you could be raising awareness and support for work involving:

  • Migrants' and refugees' rights

  • Human rights protections and access to due process

  • Emergency food, clean water, shelter, and medical assistance

  • Communities affected by conflict, displacement, poverty, and natural disasters

  • Long-term, locally led humanitarian and community development programs

Campaign assignments may change based on the needs of our nonprofit partners.

Most of our current openings are on our street fundraising team, where fundraisers work in busy public spaces and community locations. Depending on campaign needs, availability, and team fit, some new hires may instead join our door-to-door fundraising team, speaking with people in neighborhoods across Los Angeles.

Both are real, hourly paid fundraising positions. This is not volunteer petitioning, commission-only work, or a desk job.

If you're social, energetic, interested in the issues affecting your community, and looking for work where you can build valuable experience, you might be a great fit.

Fair warning: you'll spend most of your shift outside, walking or standing, and starting conversations with people you've never met. Not everyone will stop, and not everyone will say yes.

Fundraising is goal-oriented work, so you'll need to stay positive, learn from feedback, and keep going when a conversation does not work out. We provide paid training and ongoing coaching. What you bring is your energy, curiosity, resilience, and willingness to improve.

What the Job Involves
  • Represent an international nonprofit organization in public spaces or residential neighborhoods

  • Learn about your nonprofit partner and the campaign you'll be fundraising for

  • Start friendly, respectful conversations with members of the public

  • Explain complex human rights and humanitarian issues in a clear, engaging way

  • Connect campaign issues to the values and concerns of the person you're speaking with

  • Invite people to support the organization through recurring donations

  • Work alongside an energetic and supportive fundraising team

  • Practice your approach, receive regular coaching, and work toward clear fundraising goals

  • Help create a welcoming and respectful experience for everyone you meet

Pay, Schedule and Benefits
  • $20/hour guaranteed starting pay

  • Hourly pay is guaranteed and is not based on commission

  • Performance bonuses and incentives

  • Paid training and ongoing coaching

  • Approximately 21-35 hours per week

  • Minimum commitment of 3 full shifts per week

  • Shifts are approximately 7 hours

  • Street fundraising shifts are generally scheduled around 10:00 AM-5:00 PM

  • Door-to-door fundraising shifts are generally scheduled around 12:00 PM-7:00 PM

  • Health, dental, and vision benefits for eligible full-time employees after 3 months

  • Opportunities to develop into trainer, team leader, and management positions

Street and door-to-door schedules differ. Your schedule, campaign assignment, and team placement will be discussed during the hiring process.

What We're Looking For

You do not need previous fundraising experience. You may be a great fit if you:

  • Care about human rights, humanitarian aid, social justice, or community issues

  • Enjoy meeting people and can build rapport quickly

  • Communicate clearly, warmly, and confidently

  • Are curious and willing to learn about complex campaigns

  • Can stay motivated after hearing "no"

  • Are comfortable working toward goals and receiving regular feedback

  • Enjoy active work and being outside

  • Can walk and stand for most of a 7-hour shift

  • Can reliably commute to North Hollywood and rotating outreach locations

  • Can commit to at least 3 full shifts each week

  • Are at least 18 years old

  • Are legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship

Experience in hospitality, independent cafes or restaurants, customer service, retail, sales, theatre, public speaking, political organizing, volunteering, or community outreach is helpful, but not required.

This can also be a strong opportunity for students and recent graduates interested in:

  • Political science

  • International relations

  • Sociology

  • Communications

  • Public policy

  • Human rights

  • Social justice

  • Nonprofit or community-based work

Build Experience That Goes Beyond This Job

This role gives you hands-on experience in:

  • Nonprofit fundraising

  • Advocacy and public engagement

  • Persuasive communication

  • Public speaking and storytelling

  • Community outreach

  • Goal setting and performance coaching

  • Leadership and team development

You'll learn how to take a complicated issue, make it understandable, connect it to someone's values, and inspire them to take meaningful action.

That experience can be valuable for future work in nonprofits, communications, public policy, organizing, education, marketing, sales, and other people-focused careers.

Join Our North Hollywood Team

Candidates based in North Hollywood, the San Fernando Valley, and surrounding communities are strongly encouraged to apply.

Bring your people skills, your perspective, and your willingness to speak up for causes that matter. We'll provide the campaign training, fundraising tools, and ongoing support.

Apply today to work as a Face-to-Face Fundraiser representing international human rights and humanitarian causes.

Public Outreach is committed to building an inclusive workplace.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
