What is the Fund Administration & Oversight Analyst responsible for?

This role will execute an established risk-based approach to completing assignments related to Franklin Templeton funds at the security, jurisdictional or regional level. The role requires understanding the third parties fund administrators' control environment and the continuous development and implementation of an agreed-upon tactical fund administration oversight model. This includes the ongoing development of digital tools to minimize risk and create efficiencies. This role will be responsible for reviewing reports provided by the third-party administrator, such as all pricing functions, IBOR pricing, and management appraised fair value pricing for reasonableness and accuracy, ensuring all deadlines are met.

What are the ongoing responsibilities of a Fund Administration & Oversight Analyst?

Risk Management:

  • Use of a risk-based approach in reviewing daily, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual reporting such as unchanged prices, trade compare, day over day price review, price tolerance breaches, and general pricing inquiries, and other deliverables prepared by third-party administrators.

  • Process, review and approve pricing and management appraised fair value on a daily basis.

Problem Solving and Reporting:

  • Independently respond to complex internal and external queries in a timely manner, providing clients with accurate answers.

  • Guide third-party administrators in planning and coordinating production of reporting to ensure that regulatory and client deadlines are met.

  • Liaise with third-party administrators to resolve complex issues identified in performing oversight tasks, escalating any areas of concern to management.

Process Improvement:

  • Proactively identify potential improvements in work processes supporting the oversight model.

  • Participate in departmental/divisional projects, taking the lead on less complex work or participating in wider, more complex, initiatives. Examples include building workflows via digital tools, new product launches, regulatory initiatives, and interdepartmental projects.

Research and Analysis:

  • Research and analyze various daily pricing exceptions, unchanged security prices, trade reports, and pricing inquiries.

  • Assist more senior staff in various reporting and/or analysis.

  • Perform due diligence on pricing vendors and third-party administrators.

Third Party Reviews and Process Oversight:

  • Serve as a primary contact by coordinating with stakeholders to prepare for the audit response to inquiries and bridge the communication gap between internal/external auditors, third-party administrator, and/or internal groups.

  • Organize aspects of the year-end audit process; work with external auditors to resolve any security related pricing issues.

  • Review and validate fund related invoices for reasonableness and/or accuracy. Support the manager with strategic or critical audit issues.

Client Servicing:

  • Provide customer service to clients (e.g., fund managers, sales and marketing, product, performance and risk, internal and external boards), answer ad hoc queries and work with managers on special client assignments.

  • Act as key point of contact with other Franklin Templeton Service (FTS) business units to provide client service support.

  • 2-5 years of relevant work experience in the mutual fund/financial services industry or investment operations

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in finance, accounting or other business disciplines or equivalent work experience

  • Familiarity with business analytics and automation tools (Alteryx, PowerBI, Power Automate, Python, etc.)

  • Strong analytical skills with a keen eye for details, coupled with superior organizational skills

  • Professional certifications such as Certified Financial Analyst (CFA) looked upon favorably

  • Ability to work until 5:30pm PDT daily

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
