Job Summary

The Functional Analytics & Insights Director - Finance & Corporate Communications is responsible for delivering impactful, data-driven insights that guide key business decisions across functions, with a focus on Finance. In this role, the director collaborates closely with senior leaders across USLT, Policy & Access, US Medical, and Finance, to identify and analyze critical business needs, ensuring that analytical workstreams are aligned with strategic priorities. The director develops tailored solutions that drive organizational value, providing clear, actionable recommendations based on deep domain expertise. By embedding analytics products into workflows and fostering a culture of continuous improvement, this role enhances analytical capabilities and supports the strategic direction of the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise stakeholders to define clear, impactful business priorities, and develop action plans. Develop strategic options and recommendations by synthesizing findings, connecting insights across therapeutic areas, ecosystems, or analytic domains, and aligning them with organizational goals.

  • Demonstrate mastery in tailoring communication to specific audiences, communicating and influencing senior leaders and simplifying details for stakeholder buy-in.

  • Translate strategic vision into actionable insights by leveraging a strong analytical background and deep subject matter expertise in respective domain(s) to ensure successful execution of initiatives across teams and functions.

  • Sense business needs through stakeholder interactions, drive towards outcomes through high degrees of uncertainty, and lead cross-functional teams to achieve project objectives.

  • Catalyze and entrench new solutions and ways of working into the business.

  • Demonstrate mastery of a capability, and pro-actively help teammates build proficiency/mastery of that capability.

  • Demonstrate leadership through pro-active, informal coaching and mentorship of analysts across the team.

  • Autonomously operates and manages all levels of stakeholders (with extremely limited/no manager guidance).

  • Accountable for pro-actively providing expertise, strategic planning support and execution against evolution of a capability.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to deeply understand business needs, key questions, and priorities, and ensure alignment with project objectives and analytic lead direction.

  • Perform custom analyses by applying appropriate analytic techniques to address business challenges. 

  • Take an enterprise mindset, linking individual responsibilities with broader organization; focus on outcomes that provide most business and patient value. 

  • Contribute to continuous organizational improvement by sharing best practices, identifying opportunities for automation, and enhancing the efficiency and impact of analytic workflows.

  • Play an active role in the adoption and activation of analytical products by staying up to date on the product roadmap, participating in training, user testing (as needed), and providing constructive feedback to ensure products are integrated into workflows. Embed and integrate products into workflows and foster Data, Analytics, and AI's product-first culture.

  • Effectively interact with and guide offshore teams to ensure alignment with project objectives and maintain high-quality deliverables.

  • Quickly adapt to evolving priorities by working flexibly within a modular structure to address varying business needs and deliver impactful insights across the following domains:

    • Finance: Advise Finance and Data, Analytics, and AI stakeholders, including Genentech CFO, on business performance, near-term and long-term outlook, and risks and opportunities.  Skillfully navigate and integrate both short and long term forecasting capabilities that contribute to the creation of integrated plans that represent the most appropriate demand plan scenarios to achieve GNE / Roche business objectives.

    • Corporate Communications: Advise team and create content to clearly depict business performance for Genentech and CMG Town Halls, Officer’s Meetings, Board Meetings and other relevant events. 

    • Forecasting: Generate revenue and supply forecasts, perform uncertainty analyses, and provide actionable insights to inform strategic business decisions.  Guide forecasting community on forecasting process, setting expectations for their deliverables, timelines, and coordination with Squad, Finance, Commercial Portfolio Organization (CPO), and USLT stakeholders.

  • Comply with all laws, regulations and policies that govern the conduct of Genentech activities. 

Who You Are

Minimum Candidate Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree. 

  • 8 years of relevant work experience (or equivalent with advanced education).

  • Growth mindset.

  • Experience synthesizing concise summaries focused on the key insights that inform business decisions. 

  • Comfortable dealing with uncertainty in a highly-matrixed organization.

  • Strong results orientation and adaptability in a past-faced environment.

  • Persuasive written and verbal communication skills.

Additional Desired Candidate Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, Statistics, Life Sciences, Mathematics, Computer or Physical Sciences or related field.

  • MBA or graduate-level degree.

  • Proficiency in understanding market landscape and surfacing insights across multiple primary data sources. 

  • Demonstrated experience in CFO advisory, Finance and Forecasting domains.

  • Influence with indirect authority actions and decisions by Data, Analytics, and AI and Finance partners in support of Global & CMG objectives and meeting business needs.

  • Exposure to pharmaceutical product development and/or commercialization.

  • Proficient with data analytics tools (excel, python, SQL, etc.)

  • Proven track record of pro-active leadership, time-management, project management, and teamwork. 

  • Mastery in exploring large amounts of data, identifying important insights and building compelling narratives.

  • This position is based in South San Francisco, CA

  • Relocation Assistance is not available

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $157,010 - $291,590.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.  This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
