What You'll DoCore Responsibilities

You are not expected to have all of these and we will support your learning and growth

  • Build and ship complete features independently from product specifications & prototypes

  • Own end-to-end: API design → database schema → UI implementation → Testing

  • Write production-ready, reliable code that scales to thousands of users

  • Work primarily in TypeScript, sometimes in JavaScript, other languages based on need

    • One of our repos is a medium-sized repo mostly built in JS that we’d like to slowly migrate to TS (~150k LOC)

  • Leverage AI coding tools (Claude Code) to accelerate development as needed

  • Integrate third-party services: AWS S3, Stripe, OpenAI, Mailgun

  • Take initiative on technical improvements and architectural decisions

  • Maintain and improve production systems with high attention to quality

Primary Tech Stack (varies by project)
  • Backend: NestJS, TypeORM, PostgreSQL, Node.js (TS/JS)

  • Frontend: React 18, Next.js, Redux Toolkit, Tailwind CSS, MUI

  • AI Tools: Cursor IDE, Claude Code (subscriptions provided)

  • DevOps: GitHub, Slack, Sentry, Jest, Docker, Railway, MS Azure

  • Workflow: Kanban-based, continuous delivery

What You Get
  • Competitive pay (1500-3000 USD depending on experience)

  • Flexible to live and work from anywhere with optional office space in Yerevan with our partner team

  • Focus on impactful work with minimal politics, meetings, extra work

  • Opportunity to work at the forefront of latest development best practices

  • Mentorship and guidance from senior engineering leaders

What You NeedTechnical Competencies

You can demonstrate ability to:

  • Build production-ready applications in TypeScript (or JS)

  • Clarify and scope unclear issues when needed

  • Design and implement REST APIs with modern frameworks

  • Work with relational databases (PostgreSQL) and ORMs

  • Ship complex React applications with Next.js and state management

  • Write automated tests as part of your standard workflow

  • Debug production issues independently and ship reliable fixes

  • Use AI coding tools effectively to accelerate development

Who You Are
  • Ownership mindset - deliver features you're proud of

  • Great talent with high potential - eager to grow and develop your skills

  • Self-directed and proactive - take ownership, minimal hand-holding needed

  • High attention to detail - clean code, proper error handling, edge cases matter

  • Strong communicator - clear written updates, proactive about blockers

  • Driven to learn - stay current with latest technologies and best practices

Nice-to-Have
  • AI/ML API integration (OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, etc.)

  • Background in HR Tech, Health Tech, or MarTech products

  • Docker and AWS deployment experience

How We Work

AI-native: Claude Code subscriptions provided - use AI as needed

Async-first: GitHub for code, Slack for communication, written over meetings

Self-managed: We don’t manage you. You show initiative, discipline, and organization.

Kanban flow: Pick up tasks, ship when ready, no sprint ceremonies

TypeScript-first: Primary language across most projects

Code quality: Every PR reviewed, tests required, Sentry monitoring

Direct collaboration: Work with PM, designer, and business owners directly

Hiring Process
  1. Initial screening (30 min) - Technical capabilities, work & expectation alignment

  2. Sample project (3-6 hours) - Take-home realistic scenario to give you a sense of what you'll work on.

  3. (Optional: Meet our office and partner team in Yerevan)

  4. Paid trial project (1 week) - Work on actual feature

  5. Final decision - Offer or feedback

Timeline: 2-3 weeks start to finish

To Apply

Include:

  1. Brief intro (5 sentences):

    1. Your relevant experience (You can use your resume to make it simple)

      1. Tech stacks and level of experience

      2. Business production software

      3. AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, etc.)

      4. Example of a complex feature/product you built and owned independently

  2. Preferred monthly rate (optional)

We're looking for: Someone with great talent and potential who wants to grow, can take ownership of features independently, and consistently delivers production-ready, reliable code. If you love TypeScript, embrace AI tools, and thrive with minimal direction, we want to hear from you.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
