Velera is the nation’s premier payments credit union service organization (CUSO) and an integrated fintech solutions provider. The company serves more than 4,000 financial institutions throughout North America, operating with velocity to help our clients keep pace with the rapid momentum of change and fuel growth in the new era of financial services. Our purpose: We accelerate partners’ success through innovative financial technology solutions and inspired service.
The Opportunity:
We are seeking a talented Experience Engineer to rapidly build out design-forward front-end prototypes to support high-integrity user research. The engineer will provide fast, well-reasoned code that can be extended and built upon as the testable features crystallize into valued solutions.
This role will be embedded into a tightly woven, collaborative, cross-functional group of experts all focused on transforming our customers' experiences with and around our product suite. You’ll participate in regular group meetings with this team.
Day in the Life:
Code rough designs into functional prototyped solutions based on research, review the usability testing of the prototype, and help grow and evolve the prototypes before sending them through the pipeline to be integrated into new products.
Balance speed, adaptability, and high quality: some outputs will fail to be validated with users and will need to be dismantled or reworked with a minimum of effort.
Push the experience in the solution: design sets a high bar, and technology must meet or exceed the vision.
Take guidance from leadership or colleagues on work assignments with an open mindset for constructive feedback.
Be independent in creating a solution for a roughly-defined problem, or look to design cues and elements to fill in blanks that may be missing in a design prototype, including sometimes giving multiple possible options for evaluation.
Reach out in collaboration to colleagues to make UI component changes or other improvements when needed, offering technically-sourced options where possible.
Understand the big picture for the product and be able to suggest and implement independent experimental proposals for how to add value to or factor out problems from the product.
Present completed work through storytelling: be able to make the case for what you built on a technical and user-focused lens and why it’s better.
Provide diligent review of others’ code by being prompt, asking questions, and giving thorough and detailed feedback.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, computer science or related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
7+ years experience in software engineering, computer science or related role.
Minimum experience of 2+ years with React.js projects.
Minimum experience of 4+ years working with JavaScript and CSS.
Experience coding in an AWS cloud environment
Experience working with Figma would be a plus
Domain knowledge/experience in the financial services or fintech industry.
A background in design or a demonstrable history of working across fields with design teams is a plus.
Prior experience leading a team, including decision-making on product content.
