THE ROLE

We’re building our roster of Freelance Senior Art Directors for upcoming project needs. This isn’t tied to one assignment, rather we’re looking for visually driven, conceptual-forward creatives who can jump in as opportunities arise.

As a Freelance Senior Art Director, you'll help spearhead the conceptual side of social-first work, helping bring breakthrough ideas to life across TikTok, Instagram, emerging platforms, and digital ecosystems. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to craft bold concepts, elevate visual storytelling, and ensure that every piece of creative feels modern, premium, and culturally relevant.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ideate and develop disruptive, platform-native concepts across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and emerging channels
  • Partner closely with creative directors, copywriters, designers, strategists, production, and post teams to build cohesive visual worlds
  • Translate strategy and ideas into clear, compelling visual directions, mood boards, shot lists, storyboards, and design references
  • Lead conceptual development across phases from concepting to production to final delivery. Maintaining consistency and creative integrity
  • Help direct the look, feel, and tone of content across formats: short-form video, campaign assets, social content, and pitch decks
  • Provide fresh POVs on cultural trends, platform aesthetics, creator styles, and the evolving language of social visual storytelling
  • Present work internally and help elevate client presentations with polished, visually engaging decks
  • Bring a proactive approach to problem solving, creative exploration, and pushing ideas beyond the obvious

QUALIFICATIONS
  • 5+ years of experience as an Art Director or Senior Art Director at creative agencies or in-house brand teams (social-first work strongly preferred)
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating visually innovative, culturally fluent, social-native work
  • Mastery of visual concepting: art direction, composition, typography, color, layout, and platform-specific aesthetics
  • Experience leading creative from concept through execution across digital and social content
  • Strong understanding of production workflows and ability to collaborate with directors, editors, designers, photographers, and creators
  • Deep familiarity with TikTok, IG Reels, YouTube, and evolving content trends
  • Ability to think both strategically and creatively, presenting ideas with clarity and conviction
  • Comfortable working autonomously, handling fast-paced timelines, and jumping into active projects

We look forward to hearing from you! 🎵💃

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
