Role Overview:

FP&A owns the long-range plan, the company-wide forecast, and the board and investor materials. As department count and spend grow with headcount, this role gives each partner area a dedicated finance partner. As an FP&A Analyst, you’ll serve as a business partner to functional leaders (e.g., Engineering, G&A and S&M leaders), tracking spend, forecasting, and explaining what’s driving the numbers. Coverage areas may change as the company scales.

Ownership over:

  • Rolling forecast inputs from partner areas to the company-wide forecast
  • Monthly variance reporting for your partner areas
  • Monthly headcount cost reconciliation with People Ops
  • Partner reporting and dashboards, built on the Datarails platform

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with functional leaders on budget ownership, headcount and vendor spend decisions, and resource tradeoffs
  • Translate current and past financial and operational data into clear recommendations for functional leaders
  • Build and maintain recurring analyses for partner areas
  • Identify and implement process improvements to streamline manual workflows and enhance reporting accuracy

Areas of accountability:

  • Own the monthly forecast and budget-to-actual inputs for your partner areas
  • Develop your partner areas’ inputs to the company-wide forecast and annual plan
  • Track actuals against plan, identify variances, and drive root-cause conversations with partners
  • Prepare analysis and talking points for leadership, and support board and investor materials as needed

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or other related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 2+ years in FP&A, corporate finance, or a related analytical role, supporting forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Comfortable with AI tools and finding ways to automate manual work
  • Familiarity with finance systems (ERP such as NetSuite; FP&A planning tool such as Datarails)
  • Can operate independently and carry projects forward with minimal direction
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, changing environment and managing multiple priorities
  • Exceptional business partnering and communication skills with ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders

Preferred Requirements:

  • Aerospace, defense, or hardware/manufacturing finance experience
  • Familiarity with Foundry or other similar data platforms
  • Exposure to international or multi-region financial reporting

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
