About Town

Town is an applied AI company building a powerful assistant that makes it easy for anyone to create and use software in their everyday work. Town starts from who you are — it builds a persistent model of your voice, judgment, relationships, and priorities, and does real work on your behalf across email, calendar, docs, Slack, and CRM. It doesn't wait to be prompted: it observes, learns, and acts.

Town was founded by Jean-Denis Greze (CEO), former CTO of Plaid, and Tony Vincent (CPO), former Director of Applied AI Product at Google. We recently raised a $55M Series A led by Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from Forerunner Ventures, First Round Capital, Alt Capital, and Conviction. We're in-person in San Francisco's Financial District, five days a week.

About the Role

At a company of our size and stage, the caliber of the team is one of the highest leverage focus areas. Every hire impacts the average, and the bar is deliberately, uncomfortably high. We're hiring our founding technical recruiter to own how Town finds, engages, and closes the engineers who will define the company.

You'll partner closely with the founders and other leaders across the company to personally carry our most important technical searches, and to build the machine underneath them so a small team can hire like a much larger one.

What you'll own
  • Full-cycle technical recruiting. From sourcing to closing and everything in between, across engineering (staff backend, AI product, growth etc.), likely with some product & design as well.

  • The candidate experience. High-touch, swift, thoughtful, and human at every touchpoint. You're often an individual's first touchpoint with Town, and you know how important candidate experience is to building an exceptional company & culture.

  • Helping build the systems. The interview loops and evaluation criteria are largely in place - our HMs are tentured and know what good looks like. But you'll help build and maintain the infrastructure that allows us to move fast, get high signal, recognize patterns and improve how we do things.

  • Recruit for Town on Town. You'll get to know and leverage our product intimately to make sourcing, outreach, and coordination dramatically more efficient. Working at a company where you're one of the core ICPs is an incredible advantage, and you'll be expected to leverage it and make us better.

You might thrive in this role if you...
  • Have 4+ years of full-cycle technical recruiting experience, with a track record hiring staff-level engineers (backend, AI/ML, infra, or similar) - ideally at a high-growth start-up

  • Get joy across the recruiting lifecycle. You know what it takes to build strong top of funnel, and you enjoy building the relationships that get the toughest closes over the line.

  • Know enough to be dangerous which conversing with top technical talent. You can hold a credible conversation about what an engineer actually does, and tell signal from noise on a resume.

  • Operate with high agency. You find the work and own the outcome. You decide at 70%, not 90%, and correct as you go.

  • Write exceptionally well and represent Town with warmth and precision to every candidate.

  • Are AI-curious at a minimum. You've experimented with how AI can make you a better recruiter, and want to use AI to make yourself more effective.

  • Get energy from working with people in person. We're 5x per week at our office in SF.

Location

San Francisco, CA — five days a week in-person at our Financial District office (near the Montgomery BART/Muni stop).

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
