About the company

Our client is an early-stage industrial technology company building software, robotics, and manufacturing systems for advanced materials. Its engineering team is creating the digital foundation for a new production operation serving aerospace and defense customers. Engineers work directly with the founders and hardware specialists, with ownership from problem definition through deployment.

The role and why it matters

Join as a founding software engineer and build the systems that connect materials, equipment, and production decisions. You will shape the architecture and product direction of a new platform, turning physical operations into useful data and reliable software.

What you will do

• Build full-stack tools for supply chain, pricing, quoting, inventory, and production operations.

• Design backend systems and data models that represent real manufacturing processes.

• Develop simulation capabilities using production data to model physical behavior.

• Integrate equipment telemetry, robotics, and factory automation into operational software.

• Work with hardware and automation engineers to define problems, choose priorities, and ship complete solutions.

• Own product outcomes and improve systems through direct feedback from their users.

Requirements

What we are looking for

• At least two years of experience shipping production software as a full-stack or product engineer.

• A record of independently delivering high-quality products at a fast-growing startup.

• Strong TypeScript skills and backend experience with Python or Go.

• Sound judgment in data modeling, architecture, and understanding user needs.

• Initiative and the ability to work through ambiguity, set goals, and move quickly.

• Eligibility to work on ITAR-controlled projects and willingness to work onsite in Los Angeles full time. Visa sponsorship is unavailable.

Bonus points

• Experience with manufacturing systems, industrial automation, or hardware.

• Familiarity with CAD, computational geometry, simulation, or 3D environments.

• Experience as an early or founding engineer, or building a product used by real customers.

Benefits

Compensation and benefits

• Base salary: $140K-$200K.

• Competitive equity tailored to experience.

• Meals and productivity tools supported by the company.

• Relocation support is available.

Location and work model

Los Angeles, California. Onsite five days per week. Candidates outside the area must commit to relocating.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
