This Position

Our conversational robots now reach tens of thousands of Americans every month, and we’re expanding the ways they can surface timely, relevant, high-value information to customers.

As a Founding Software Engineer (Intelligence Platform), you will build the underlying systems that determine what the robots present, when they present it, and how those experiences are delivered across our national fleet. Your work will define a new pillar of our robot's capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and scale the platform that determines what content the robots deliver and how it is presented across our national fleet

  • Develop systems for real-time content orchestration and personalization

  • Implement infra for measurement, experimentation, and continuous improvement

  • Build internal tools and services that allow our customers and partners to create, schedule, and manage dynamic experiences

Required Qualifications

  • You are a fast learner

  • You have a documented history of execution, working autonomously, and taking ownership of the end result

  • 2+ years of professional, full-time software engineering experience, excluding internships

  • Undergrad degree in CS or a related STEM field

  • Experience designing or implementing systems for ranking, relevance, recommendations, or personalized content delivery

  • Experience training and deploying ML models, or working with inference infrastructure

  • Strong familiarity with timeseries databases, analytics stores, or columnar storage

  • Proficiency with PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar frameworks

  • Advanced understanding of at least one language beyond syntax and surface-level usage

  • Intermediate understanding of "how technology works" — from physics to ALUs to OS design to network architecture. This role requires interfacing with other engineers.

  • Equally comfortable with both AI IDEs and writing compilable solutions to DS/algo problems with a pencil and paper

  • Comfortable with AWS or other production cloud environments

  • Strong design sense (UX/UI)

  • Fluent in English and comfortable with technical writing

Optional Qualifications

  • Experience with large-scale, low-latency delivery systems that serve millions of requests per day

  • Prior work in search infra, content ranking, or personalization algorithms

  • Experience extracting signals from speech, vision, or RF data to drive contextual targeting

  • Experience with auction design or bid optimization

  • Familiar with marketplace and/or ads platform business metrics

  • Prior experience with IaC (ex. CDK, Terraform)

  • Experience building attribution systems, multi-touch models, or incrementality frameworks

  • Experience with multi-objective optimization

  • Some positions may require a valid U.S. drivers license in good standing.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
