About Charge:

Charge Robotics is a Series A startup building robots that build solar farms.

Demand for new solar projects is booming (1/5th of all the solar that exists in the US was installed last year!), but today’s construction companies can’t keep up due to limited labor resources.

We thought this was insane, so we started working on robots to directly address this bottleneck and speed up the world’s transition to renewables.

Charge is a fast-moving company which means constant opportunities for learning and growth. You’ll have a large impact on the direction of our company and our product, which will be reflected in significant equity compensation. And you get to work with 🤖 giant robots 🤖.

If you are excited to work on interesting technical problems with direct climate impact, you’re going to fit right in at Charge Robotics.

Charge’s funding:

We’re MIT-founded and backed by top generalist and climate tech investors, including Lux Capital and Y Combinator (S21).

About the role:

As the Lead Recruiter at Charge Robotics and founding member of our people function, you’ll take critical ownership of recruiting, work with the team to create an excellent pipeline of candidates, and deliver a standout interview, hiring, and onboarding experience. • Own the end-to-end recruitment lifecycle, from sourcing and screening to negotiating and closing

  • Be a strategic partner to hiring managers across the company, collaborating on candidate strategy and ensuring that hiring goals are met in a timely manner with top-tier candidates

  • Create a positive, seamless, and fair candidate experience

  • Initially lead employee onboarding until we can grow into a larger people function

  • Report to and collaborate closely with our founder/CEO

  • Be the face of Charge Robotics and help us build a stellar employer brand

You'll be successful in this role if you:
  • Are excited and motivated to personally play a role in mitigating climate change

  • Have 6+ years of experience in recruiting, at least some of that for engineering roles

  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Have superb negotiation and relationship management skills

  • Are detail-oriented with a ruthless ability to prioritize

  • Have a metrics-driven mindset, leveraging data to understand pipeline health and improve velocity, quality, retention

  • Believe in treating all people with dignity and respect, regardless of title or tenure

  • Are proficient in ATS and other HR technologies to support data-driven decision-making and process optimization. A few tools that we use: Ashby, LinkedIn Recruiter, Bookface, Gusto

  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced, in-person startup environment

  • Are based in or can relocate to the SF Bay Area, and able to work 4-5 days/week from our San Leandro HQ

It’d also be nice if you:
  • Are passionate about and knowledgeable of robotics

  • Have a 4-year degree in the liberal arts or a related area

  • Have hired across software and hardware roles

  • Have experience building out a people function for a small and rapidly growing team, incl. owning recruiting-adjacent processes like onboarding, brand-building, or HR

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
