Forge is building the world’s first AI-native DevOps workspace, a unified environment that learns from every deployment, automates runbooks, and gives engineers superpowers. We're looking for clear communicators with a breadth of DevOps skills that take pride and ownership in their work. If you crave variety, love green-field challenges, and want to shape the future of AI-powered infrastructure, you’ll thrive here.

This job is fully remote.

Qualifications

As a Forward Deployed DevOps Engineer, you’ll embed directly with companies, shipping infrastructure that keeps them moving fast without sacrificing reliability, best practices, or security.

What you’ll do

  • Own green-field & brown-field infra. Design, build, and operate CI/CD pipelines, container orchestration, IaC, monitoring, and incident response.

  • Lead “day-zero” engagements. In your first week on a new account, run a lightweight discovery, draft a 30–60–90-day infra plan, and drive exec buy-in.

  • Ship fixes, not tickets. You’ll hold the pager, debug outages, and push code that prevents the next one.

  • Level-up teams. Pair-program, run brownbags, and write concise runbooks so founders can stay focused on product.

  • Feedback-loop back home. Capture patterns from the field to improve our internal tooling and playbooks.

You likely have

  • 4+ years building and operating production cloud infrastructure.

  • Proven success juggling multiple projects or consulting engagements.

  • Deep experience with at least one major cloud plus Kubernetes.

  • Hands-on Terraform (or Pulumi/CDK) and modern CI/CD (GitHub Actions, CircleCI, GitLab, Buildkite).

  • Observability chops: Prometheus/Grafana, Datadog, OpenTelemetry, etc.

  • Strong fundamentals in networking, Linux, containers, and security.

  • (Titles and exact years matter less than demonstrated skill and learning speed.)

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior “forward-deployed” or consulting experience.

  • Experience hardening SOC 2 / ISO 27001 / HIPAA environments.

  • Serverless, data-platform, or multi-cloud routing expertise.

  • Go or Python for bespoke tooling (we use both).

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
