Flight Simulation Integration Engineer

What You’ll Do:

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Flight Simulation Integration Engineer to join our engineering team in Hawthorne, CA. In this on-site role, you will be responsible for integrating, testing, and maintaining flight simulation systems—including avionics, software, hardware, network infrastructure, and communication interfaces. You will also play a key role in defining and documenting how systems interact through the development of Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and related technical specifications.

• Integrate avionics, flight dynamics, visuals, hardware, and data communication networks into a unified simulation environment.
• Configure and manage network components including switches, routers, and firewalls to support real-time simulation.
• Design and implement communication interfaces between simulation components using standards such as DIS, HLA, ARINC, and MIL-STD protocols.
• Author and maintain Interface Control Documents (ICDs), software/hardware interface specifications, and data dictionaries.
• Perform system-level integration and troubleshooting across simulation software, hardware, and networks.
• Validate simulation and network performance using real-world flight data and specifications.
• Create and execute test plans, integration procedures, and system verification tasks.
• Support simulation upgrades, retrofits, and user-specific configurations.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to ensure successful system interoperability.
• Provide on-site support for installations, testing, and troubleshooting as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
  

What you Need:

• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 2+ years of experience in flight simulation, systems integration, avionics, or network engineering.
• Experience with authoring and maintaining Interface Control Documents and similar engineering documentation.
  
• Hands-on experience with TCP/IP networking, multicast, VLANs, routing/switching, and QoS in real-time environments.
• Familiarity with modeling/simulation standards.
• Proficient in programming/scripting languages (e.g., C/C++, Python).
• Excellent troubleshooting skills across software, hardware, and network layers.
• Familiarity with simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, FlightGear, X-Plane).
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Bonus Qualifications:

• Experience with commercial or military flight simulators (e.g., FAA Level D, FFS, FTD).
• Strong understanding of flight dynamics, avionics, and real-time data communication.
• Working knowledge of avionics communication protocols (ARINC 429/661, MIL-STD-1553).
• Proficiency in using version control/configuration management tools (Git, SVN).
• Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

At Systems Technology Inc. (STI) we aim to attract, retain, and motivate talent that possesses the skills and leadership necessary to grow our business. For this position we are targeting a total compensation pay between $85,000 – $110,000. This is inclusive of base pay, performance bonus and ESOP. The actual compensation offered will be determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
