Financial Crime Consulting Manager

Join our Consulting Financial Crime practice to lead our markets and the clients we serve within the financial services industry.  From day one of your career, you will collaborate with our clients to transform their financial crime programs.  We will enable an entrepreneurial and innovative environment for you to deliver transformative risk consulting services and to develop deeply specialized skill sets demanded in today’s market.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead and Deliver Client Engagements: Drive end-to-end delivery of advisory projects focused on financial crime risk management, including anti-money laundering (AML), counter-terrorist financing (CTF), sanctions compliance, anti-bribery and corruption (ABC), and fraud prevention across financial institutions and FinTechs.
  • Design and Implement Risk-Based Compliance Programs: Develop tailored compliance frameworks, policies, and operating procedures aligned with clients’ risk profiles, regulatory expectations, and business objectives. Ensure effective alignment with domestic and international regulatory standards such as BSA/AML, USA PATRIOT Act, OFAC, FATF, FinCEN, and EU AML Directives.
  • Regulatory Advisory and Change Management: Provide strategic counsel on the impact of regulatory changes and industry trends, translating requirements into practical controls, systems, and governance enhancements. Lead regulatory gap assessments and remediation planning.
  • System and Process Optimization: Oversee the design, enhancement, and implementation of core financial crime controls, including KYC, CDD, EDD, transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, fraud detection, and SAR processes. Partner with clients to improve effectiveness and operational efficiency.
  • Team Leadership and Project Management: Manage diverse engagement teams, ensuring timely, high-quality delivery of client work products. Maintain accountability for engagement scope, deliverables, timelines, budgets, and overall client satisfaction.
  • Subject Matter Expertise (SME): Act as a thought leader and internal/external SME in financial crime topics. Provide insights on emerging risks, technology applications (e.g., AI, machine learning, data analytics), and regulatory priorities.
  • Client Relationship Management: Cultivate deep, trusted relationships with key client stakeholders. Understand client business challenges and proactively identify opportunities for value-added services and future engagements.
  • Market and Business Development: Contribute to business development through proposal writing, solution design, and participation in pitch meetings. Support go-to-market efforts through the development of thought leadership content, conference presentations, and internal training sessions.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with specialists in legal, risk, internal audit, compliance operations, and technology to deliver integrated and scalable client solutions. Support enterprise-wide transformation efforts including technology enablement and organizational change.
  • Innovation and Technology Enablement: Support the evaluation and deployment of technology solutions to enhance compliance program automation, risk insights, and workflow management. Stay current on RegTech trends and tools.
  • Coaching and Talent Development: Mentor junior staff and contribute to the team’s knowledge base. Support training programs and on-the-job development of staff in consulting delivery, client interaction, and subject matter knowledge.
  • Quality Assurance and Risk Management: Uphold the firm’s quality standards, reviewing work products for technical accuracy, completeness, and compliance with firm methodologies and client expectations. Identify engagement risks and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Criminal Justice, or a related field required.
  • Advanced degree (e.g., MBA, JD, or Master’s in a related field) preferred.

Certifications:

  • Professional certifications such as CAMS (Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist), CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner), CFCS (Certified Financial Crime Specialist), or equivalent strongly preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 6–8 years of experience in financial crime compliance, risk management, or internal audit roles, with at least 3 years in a client-facing consulting or professional services environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading AML, sanctions, or fraud-related engagements at banks, FinTechs, or other financial institutions.
  • Proven ability to lead project teams, manage multiple priorities, and deliver high-quality outcomes in a deadline-driven environment.

Technical Knowledge:

  • Deep understanding of regulatory expectations and compliance obligations across key financial crime areas (BSA/AML, OFAC, FATF, FinCEN, EU AML Directives, etc.).
  • Familiarity with core compliance processes and technologies such as KYC/CDD/EDD, transaction monitoring systems, sanctions screening, and case management platforms.
  • Experience with data analytics, model validation, or RegTech platforms a plus.

Consulting Skills:

  • Strong project management skills including scope definition, workplan creation, resource allocation, and issue resolution.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex regulatory topics into practical business solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence client stakeholders and lead strategic discussions.

Leadership and Collaboration:

  • Experience managing and mentoring junior staff across multiple workstreams.
  • Comfortable working in cross-functional teams and collaborating with legal, technology, audit, and compliance stakeholders.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to identify opportunities for innovation, growth, and service expansion.
  • Willingness to travel, as needed, based on client and engagement requirements.

Communication & Presentation:

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of staff, management, and clients.
  • Proven ability to develop compelling PowerPoint presentations and proposals, and to craft narratives that visually and strategically communicate complex ideas to clients.

Strategic Thinking & Personal Attributes:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to anticipate issues, draw conclusions, and adapt to changing client needs and regulatory environments.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and accountability in delivering value-driven client solutions.
  • Team-oriented mindset with a collaborative approach to working in fast-paced, client-facing environments.

Preferred: 

  • Experience working with or advising global financial institutions, FinTechs, crypto platforms, or other high-risk sectors.
  • Familiarity with compliance technologies and RegTech solutions, such as transaction monitoring systems, case management tools, and data analytics platforms.
  • Experience publishing or contributing to thought leadership in financial crime compliance, such as white papers, webinars, or industry events.
  • Strong network and reputation in the financial crime compliance or regulatory risk community.
  • Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) certification  

Travel requirements may be up to 60%, however are currently extremely limited due to the current environment.  Expected travel will be approximately 30%.

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Crowe, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $102,400.00 - $204,100.00 per year.
