We are hiring a Senior Payroll Analyst to help us realize our mission to better the lives of animals by building a place that’s better for all of us who love them. This role will be crucial to improving the experience of our people by building accurate and timely payroll operations. Key responsibilities will include establishing payroll operations excellence and the implementation and improvement of financial processes and systems to propel Modern Animal’s growth.

We are looking for a highly motivated self-starter to identify and drive continuous improvements to completion in a high-growth environment. The right candidate will be a subject matter expert in payroll processing and have excellent communication skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities.

What the job entails:

• Process bi-weekly and monthly payroll for employees across multiple states
• Execution of procedures, adjustments, and month end close processes for payroll, equity, and related taxes
• Resolve issues that may arise during payroll processing with urgency connecting the dots to implement enhancements to prevent similar issues from arising in the future 
• Develop, document, and maintain policies and procedures that support accurate and timely multi-state payroll processing
• Communicate regularly with clinical and office staff regarding complex payroll, tax, and benefit questions while promoting positive internal relationships
• Perform reconciliations for payroll and equity general ledger accounts on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
• Participate in system implementations and develop reports to meet finance needs
• Work cross functionally and with external providers to build scalable payroll processes to support rapid growth
• Support the company’s multi-state tax compliance in accordance with federal, state, and local laws. Additionally, set up taxes and business requirements as we continue to hire across the country. 

Why you'd be a great fit:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
• 4+ years of experience in payroll and/or public accounting
• Current knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll and income tax laws
• Ability to research questions related to payroll taxes
• Exceptional organization and communication skills
• Knowledge of multi-state payroll and equity management
• Previous experience working with an hourly workforce
• Strong analytical skills and impeccable attention to detail
• Previous experience with Multi-Pro, UKG UltiPro, and/or Kronos preferred
• Collaborative go-getter, willing to roll-up sleeves and to be hands-on
• Enthusiasm for thinking outside the box to tackle complex problems
• Operate with high emotional intelligence and exceptional communication skills
